I received an email a few minutes ago saying my kindle needs to update to continue to work correctly. But it doesn't say which kindle. I have an oasis and voyage and as far as I know both are up to date. Anyone else get this email?

Fire Talk / Engadget mentions "reading mode" how?
« on: November 02, 2013, 09:39:02 am »
I bought the fire HDX 7 and was reading an Engadget review of battery life. They state "And if you enable Amazon's Reading Mode, which shuts down extra processes while you're reading, you should get around 17 hours of life, ".
Does anyone know how to get to it to turn it on?
Here is link to quote I gave

I have been clicking the tell the publisher button for a couple of years on her book The Group. I received an email today that it is available via Open Road publishers. They have put out a lot of interesting older books this year and the formatting/editing is always top quality.

Also Rebecca is available for preorder. I don't know the publisher n that. But it is now listed as preorder in the Amazon kindle store.

The book the movie is based on, so this one is The American. The link is for the original book, the plot ect is the same, but the cover is different.  The book is  suspense, but it is beautifully written with descriptive prose about Italy, gun making, and the darker side of human nature. A very good read. About 5500 locations.

Archives / SOLD
« on: December 22, 2010, 06:27:23 pm »
I gave my Dx to a friend, but she only wanted the neoprene sleeve. So I have the DX case FS. It is in very good shape, and from a non-smoking home. I have pictures that I know how to email, but I don't know how to post them, because I don't have a flicker or other such account. If you are interested I will email pictures of the inside and outside.

Asking $75 included shipping (and insurance) to lower 48.
Edited to add: Want to sell using Amazon gift card as payment.

Not Quite Kindle / Amazon locked my account, but now positive
« on: December 08, 2010, 01:21:42 pm »
I am posting this to reassure anyone else who may find themselves in the spot I found myself yesterday.
I woke up to an email that had been sent Sunday at 11:30 PM. It was from Amazon and said, "We've found your account is directly related to another which has been previously closed for abuse of our policies. As such, you Amazon .com account has been closed."
I, of course was panicked for a couple of reasons. One being my poor homeless kindle books, and the other concern was I've never had more than one account (so who has the other account tied to mine ???). I was really much more nervous of the second, because I knew I hadn't done it.
Well, I communicated with Amazon the best I could, they said it would take 24 hours and they couldn't give me any information on the second account for privacy reasons. I calmly explain that I didn't think that made sense because if they were saying I opened it how could they be violating my privacy by telling me, but they didn't seem to follow my logic. I stayed calm, just answered their questions. And it took 36 hours but they emailed me and apoligized and said it was a "Technical error."

I am not posting this to say anything bad about Amazon, because they did work with me, and it worked out. But I am posting because if it is a "tecnical issue" it may not be only me. So I just wanted to reassure anyone else that it will probably work out if it happens to you  ;) .

Although I was really nervous for awhile  :o

The Book Corner / People review diary and say it is "self indulgent"
« on: October 22, 2010, 06:55:54 am »
??? .  The diary in question is from Anais Nin, I know she is not for everyone. And I get that. But it doesn't make sense to me to put in a review that a diary is self indulgent.  I didn't comment on the review, there are actually a couple of them that say it.  I don't comment on reviews in  ways that  basically are adding my ideas,  but I really can't get myself to understand the statement. Isn't a diary self indulgent by nature?

Suggestions, Comments / Can't log in via iphone unless buy app?
« on: July 30, 2010, 05:59:24 pm »
This started about 2 oclock today. I have used my iphone via its web to login and read here for months. But at 2:00 today I pulled up kindleboards and got a popup "this forum is iphone native!  click ok to learn more about Tapatalk for iphone. " and it give a choice to cancel or ok. When I hit cancel it takes me to log in screen. When I log in I get the same pop up. If I hit cancel it takes me to login again. If I hit "ok" it takes me to buy the app. If I choose not to buy the app it takes me to login. But it won't allow me to login. If I don't buy the app it continues to take me to the Apple app store to the Tapatalk app information page and the only option seems to be to buy the app for $2.99 if I want to log on via my iphone. Is this a new thing. I haven't changed any settings on my phone. I got on, logged on at noon via the iphone. But it started doing this at 2. I've restarted the phone, cleared the cache, cookies ect. but it continues. If this is a new kindleboards policy or something than that is fine, it's worth it and I'll buy the app. But if it isn't, I thought someone may want to know about it.

The Book Corner / Recommend a US Presidental Biography
« on: June 17, 2010, 08:08:31 am »
I began a tradition about 5 years ago to read a US Presidential Biography each summer. So far I've read Truman, John Adams, 1776 (which doesn't exactly fit but was really good; Founding Brothers, and The Conviction of Richard Nixon: The Untold Story of the Frost/Nixon Interviews
Does any one have any suggestions for this year. My only request is, unless it is a book you think is really, really good. I prefer Biography over Autobiography.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Kindle CS great!
« on: June 15, 2010, 01:11:06 pm »
I had a problem with my K2i  yesterday. I got home and at the top left corner it had started to separate along the seam. I talked to my husband and daughter and they swore up and down they hadn't touched it. I called Kindle CS and the asked if I'd dropped it, I told them no. They sent me a new kindle (overnight), under warranty. My daughter called this morning on my cell and said a friend had called her "and confessed" she'd knocked it off the table. So, I called Kindle CS and told them what had happened, and they said "thanks for being honest a lot of people wouldn't but the Kindle should be able to take that short drop so don't worry about it." (The drop was from the coffee table (18 inches) onto the carpet (according to the teenager ).
I just wanted to brag on Kindle CS, they were so kind, patient, and understanding.

I don't know where to put this, so mods feel free to move this post where it belongs.
My question is about the book covers on the top of the page when you enter the forum. They are links, if I click into them they take me to Amazon. If I buy a book from that link does Kindle boards make any money from the new kindle book /Amazon link type thingy  agreement?
Sorry if my question is very clear, but I don't know much about this stuff.  But sometimes forums get a fee or % if people go through their sight. So I guess I'm asking if I can help the forum by purchasing through these cover links.

Is my question as clear as mud?

Archives / For sale US Kindle DX
« on: April 15, 2010, 06:09:35 am »
I am selling the DX because I have a k2, and a Sony, and haven't used the DX in months. I like the DX because it formats plays and poetry better, for my eyes, than the k2, but now use the kindle for Mac for that. I am selling the DX, along with an Oberon Tree of Life cover in saddle . Either together, for $400 or just the DX for $350 in Amazon gift card, we can use the Kindle board link. Both are in excellent shape. I don't know how to post pictures, sorry, I've tried but it doesn't seem to work. I did not buy an extended warranty, and the year warranty on the DX expires in June.   I have had no problems with it.  I still have original box and charger/USB which are included and I will mail with insurance to lower 50.
I know online buying and selling involves a lot of trust, and have sold a k2 with cover, and a Sony on this board in the past without problems.

Please PM if interested. If you PM please let me know if you are wanting to buy or just tire kicking  ;) .

Kindle Accessories / Oberon Christmas ordiments
« on: December 06, 2009, 11:03:36 am »
I received a notice in my mailbox of a postage due on something mailed to me. So I go to post office, stand in line, lots of fun this time of year, pay the postage and they hand me a padded envelope with Oberon as return address. Now I've ordered a lot from them in the past, but have no open orders. So I open it and it is a card thanking me for all my past business and a "free" tree ordiment. Lovely,  really it is. But I stood in line almost half an hour because they didn't put postage on it. Seriously?? Did this happen to anyone else? Or did I just get the package that got missed in postage line?

Archives / For Sale: Sony 700
« on: September 26, 2009, 03:13:28 pm »
I upgraded to the new 600. So I'm selling my 700. Sale includes 2 cases, the black standard it arrived with and a pink Sony case I bought for $30. Also comes with 2 memory cards, 16 mb. It charges via USB (cable included), I've charged it easily via both a laptop and regular computer. I've used it on a PC and MAC and it works well with either. I don't know how to post pictures, but it has been treated well and is in good shape. I will keep some books on it, many that aren't available on Kindle, but in all honesty I don't know if you will be able to access those once you register to your account on the Sony store. I have deregistered it and they read not registered, but I don't know what will happen to your access of them once you change accounts. I have used it for library books and it works well. You can get on the Sony ebookstore and find the libraries in your area and what books are offered without an account, if you want to check that out first. The library finder is at the bottom of the page on this link:

Asking $150 (Amazon gift ecard), shipping to 49 states (with tracking) included.

Now there are two versions, one publish date 2008 still says that.  The other is for sell. It is well formatted and looks legit. I'm excited  .  I couldn't get link maker to work from my cell.
