Is there a reason why you aren't creating your author page under your profile page? That's what a lot do, even if they write under their own name. It's a way to separate the two, and keep your personal life personal.

I write under a pen name, and have my author page created under my personal profile. They are completely separate, and there was no need for verification. All ads are paid for through my main profile.

I have a personal profile and also an author page under my pen name. My question is about getting the author page verified with a blue check. I wonder how you would do it with a pen name.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get your Facebook author page verified if you use a pen name? Facebook requests some form of I.D. to prove you're you. But if your name on the I.D. is different, what do you do? Could you send them a screenshot of a book contract with your publisher or something that shows both your real name and your pen name?

December is the hardest.  January is hard in the first half of the month.  September is another hard month. 

I read a study done on this and they broke it down into months.

September is the most difficult month (or used to be because that's when all the big trad. pub books came out). Feb. was traditionally the easier. Slower sales month in general, less releases. Not sure if that's still the case. I don't recall hearing anything about Jan. in particular.

I've read many posts where writers have said that in some months/seasons it's harder to make a bestseller list like USA Today, NY Times, or Wall Street Journal. I know that November/December is one of these, but does anyone know what the other months are? For example, is January a month where it requires double the sales to make a list? Or is there a lull after Christmas?

I've managed a few titles that had feature ads in the week before and after Christmas. It's like any other ad time, so it can be amazingly good or kinda (comparatively) meh.
I had a Bookbub on Christmas day two years ago.  It was fantastic !

Also interested in this. My fantasy novel just got a US and International Bookbub for the 23rd of December - I was kind of wondering if the results would be depressed because folks are distracted because of the holidays, or if they might be more willing to grab a distraction to fill some free holiday time. Anyone who gets regular Bookbubs have any experiences to share?

Has anyone ever got a BookBub deal that ran over the Christmas holidays? If so, were sales better or worse than at other times of year? I have a Christmas novel that I was thinking of submitting for a deal over the holiday, but don't want to waste it if the returns at this time of year are generally lackluster.

I also have a campaign limit which is smaller than my billing limit. So, even if they switch it back on, the campaign limit will stop them billing me over and over.

I'm glad I found this discussion as I gave up Facebook ads a while ago and had forgotten my payment details were still on the site. I've now removed them to make sure Facebook can't bill me by mistake. It took me quite a while to do that - it's not an easy site to navigate.

Once I have this mess sorted, I think I'll remove my billing details as well. This whole episode feels like an enormous breach of trust.

I think I may be losing my mind, but I talked to someone yesterday on Facebook Chat Support (his name was Nick, he helped me troubleshoot a problem I had -- an ad that had been running for 6 months, 3500+ clicks, etc suddenly became "Not Approved" -- and he disputed the claim on my behalf, and to my utter shock they reversed the decision and "Approved" it once more). Nick even opened up a "line of contact" via email before signing off. But when I went to the Support page where I found the chat button just now, IT'S GONE  :o It's usually at the bottom of the Facebook Business Resources page, where it says "Additional Support" and shows two icons, "Community" and "Chat," but that "Chat" button has been replaced by "Email"...seemingly overnight. How straaange, because the chat was the most efficient and quickest response I've ever seen from Facebook (it took less than 30 seconds to get in a chatroom with "Nick"). Sorry for your crisis, I thought I could help, but alas! D:

The Chat button only shows during certain hours :D

I've had this problem before. Actually, FB switched on an ANCIENT ad - one I'd shut down a year before - and it racked up $3600 in spend. They billed me and my credit card declined the charge (over limit) at which point I got a nastygram from FB. I got onto the chat window and threw the mother of all hissy fits and they backed down.

I'm glad they backed down in your case. I hope the person I finally get to communicate with there will be able to help me, too.

I heard back from Facebook today. It was an automated response that directed me to re-submit my query through another contact form. I did so, but it feels like a runaround. We'll see if I get an actual reply next time. After hearing all of your stories, I'm not holding out much hope.

Yikes, so sorry that's happened. I find FB perplexing with its interface a lot of the time. And the more I hear about FB stuff, the more I am not into it. It's expensive, highly technical, and doesn't always yield a good return. I think I'd rather stick to one day getting Bookbub with the money, and just working on my FB group :) I hope they refund you!

I hope so, too! I only used them in conjunction with a Book Bub and a few other ads. I really wish I hadn't. I'm not sure they made much difference anyway. And now, after turning them off, to find out they've still been billing me. I've felt like crying since I found out last night.

If the charge is on a credit card, dispute it when you receive your statement. That will get Facebook's attention. No reason you should pay for ads that never happened. But do set your limit on FB ads to something low like $50.
It's all very well them giving refunds, but you might need that money for something important, like rent or mortgage payment.

Exactly! This is a large sum of money to me. And once the ads are turned off, they shouldn't continue charging money. The irony is, when the sale ended, I put my books back in Kindle Unlimited. So the ads--which linked to Barnes & Noble and Apple--were just dead links. That's why I stopped them when the sale ended. So basically, Facebook is charging me $500 for running ads that linked to nowhere.

On another thread people are talking about receiving unexpected refunds from FB. Maybe related?

I know this doesn't help now, but after FB billed me $150 or something I went into the settings and set the max billing limit to $60. I also set a max spend of $50. What that means is that I have to go in and clear my limit now and then, or the ads stop (but so does the spending)

Thanks for the reply. I think that after this experience I probably won't be using Facebook Ads again. I hope it was all just a billing mistake that they can fix. The contact form said they should respond in 1-2 days. I'm not very optimistic.

I had a sale on one of my books that ended on June 10. I had been running three Facebook ads. When the sale ended, I turned all of them off. Today, I went to Ads Manager to check something else and it says that I owe $500!! Apparently, Facebook has continued to bill me even after the ads were shut off. I'm in a complete panic. I feel as if I've been robbed. Has anyone else experienced anything like this before with Facebook Ads?? I don't know what to do. I reached out to Facebook through the ads contact form, but don't hold out a lot of hope for hearing back from them.   :(

I have found the same thing to be true on Author Central, where <p> gets me nothing. (One says it twice in order to get the blank line we expect to see between paragraphs on web pages.)

About B&N Support: in the days when I uploaded to B&N (I now use Draft2Digital), their Support was just about nonexistent.

How disappointing. I thought if you went direct the support was supposed to be better? But you're right. B&N support never even answered my message about formatting. If I hadn't been able to get the answer here, I'd have been out of luck!

You need to use HTML, it's not wysiwyg. And it's messy HTML at that. Line breaks work better than paragraph breaks in my experience.

It's a total pita.
I had the same issue when uploading my husband's boxed set, it was a huge mess - so I just used https://kindlepreneur.com/amazon-book-description-generator/ and copied it into the blurb area, worked like a charm! Hope that helps :)

Thank you both! I'm trying to update it with html now. Hopefully that will work for me.

ETA: It hasn't worked, unfortunately. Unless it is just taking super long to update the changes. I entered my blurb in html and re-published the change, but even after all these hours, it's still the same mass of unformatted text.  :(

I just switched from Draft2Digital to uploading direct to Barnes & Noble via Nook Press. I formatted my blurb like I always do (two header lines and two separate paragraphs) but, when it went live, everything was mashed together into one untidy run-on paragraph. I emailed Nook support but it's been 48 hours and I haven't heard back. Is there some trick to blurb formatting for Barnes & Noble? This was never an issue when I submitted through D2D.

I started to jump ship from D2D just before the BookBub (long story) and so I actually did everything but hit publish on Kobo and B&N and it was in no way any more frustrating than setting things up with Amazon or D2D. There are two reasons I stuck with D2D. 1. I wanted to have all my sales reports in one place (I am currently regretting this part of my reasoning because of D2D's lag issues). 2. I wanted more than 0.35 - 0.40 on each 0.99 book for my BookBub (a decision I am not regretting yet). :-) Meanwhile, while trying to decide between D2D and direct with B&N and Kobo both B&N and Kobo answered my questions very promptly via their author services help departments. So I would say it would likely be a very pleasant experience to go direct with them. I will in all likelihood go direct with them for my new series this fall.

I'm really tempted, but I also sell at iTunes and apparently you can't do that yourself unless you have a Mac. Maybe I should just use D2D for iTunes? I have to give it some more thought.

I dealt with this same mystery yesterday. Blade's Edge's rank (on its sales page) said "93" but then it wasn't there in the Top 100 list. However, it was #5 in the sci-fi & fantasy category (which wasn't listed on its page, but was where I found it when looking through the Nook Top 100). So I suppose my answer is: I have no clue... but please let me know if you find out.

Thanks, Virginia. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I wonder if they curate that list in some way? Right now, the same romance novel is on there twice! So frustrating. I can't help but think that if I published directly through Nook Press instead of Draft2Digital there'd be some way to get answers directly from Barnes and Noble. Then again, I don't know how much more frustrating it would be to upload directly to Nook, Kobo, and iTunes...

Does anyone know how the Nook Top 100 category at Barnes & Noble works? I have a book that's currently ranked in the top 30. I assumed it would be listed on the top 100 list, but it's nowhere on it.  :(
