Thanks! I thought I had done that, but it was back when I was using a wrong format. Hooray!

I'm bumping this thread because I can't find the transferred PDF files on my Kindle. I used to just pay the small fee and email them to myself, but now with my new Kindle, they can read PDF's directly without converting (right?) so I thought I'd just do it myself. I hooked up USB, dragged and dropped, and can see them in the Kindle folder on my Mac, but I can't find them on my Kindle. Help!

I would like "An Awesome Book of Thanks" because it's the new year and one of my goals is to pass on gratitude to my children and help them experience joy and thankfulness in everyday things. It can be hard finding books for both kids and adults in Kindle version and this one looks wonderful.

I would pick an orange lighted case.

Haha- Oops! It's Ammi's

Gregruns- Yes, she has sizes that fit the Kindle and the cover with light. Just make sure you read the description- she has a variety of sizes to suit different uses. The pictures all show them with a naked kindle so you can see the sizing (I'm waiting for Santa to bring me my light cover) and she has dimensions posted.

I'm going to talk with her tonight to see about a giveaway... I'll be sure to let you all know!

My mom just got an Etsy shop up and running a few months ago and has it fully stocked with beautiful felted cozies for Kindles (with or without covers). She is offering 20% off using the code BUYHANDMADE 2010. Below are a few pictures. She would also love to do custom orders (although I'm not sure she could do custom in time for the holidays).

Happy Holidays!

Here's a new one:

I should add a disclaimer that the author is a co-worker of mine. This is the first of a series, two of which have just been published. It's very enjoyable and has been getting good reviews. $1.00... can't beat that!

I also have been doing Harris polls and earning points. I now have enough for a $5 AGC. At first they were REALLY slow with sending me polls, and the first few they sent didn't earn me any points. But now they send at least one a week or so and I earn points by doing them.

Swagbucks is still easier for me, we are on the computer a lot and I just make it my default.

I have already got one gift card, and have about 110 more points ready to turn in. The thing I have done to earn them faster is just install the toolbar on your browser, and the browser that anyone else in the family uses. Make it the default. if you can. also install it at work. Just use it all the time.

Let's Talk Kindle! / NPR- Judge a Book by it's Pixels
« on: June 04, 2009, 09:12:02 am »
This was a really interesting show on the future of books. You can download it in MP3 format, or just listen online.

Like newspapers and music, books are becoming increasingly digitized. With websites like that allow you to download books directly on to you computer, and devices like Amazonís Kindle that let you to read and download books anywhere, the digital book revolution has begun.

The growing shift to digital makes people in the publishing and book selling industries wonder whatís in store for the future. Will books go the way of the newspaper or music? No one knows for sure, but most people at least agree that change is coming. As author Steven Johnson writes in The Wall Street Journal:

I knew then that the book's migration to the digital realm would not be a simple matter of trading ink for pixels, but would likely change the way we read, write and sell books in profound ways. It will make it easier for us to buy books, but at the same time make it easier to stop reading them. It will expand the universe of books at our fingertips Ö but it may well end up undermining some of the core attributes that we have associated with book reading for more than 500 years.

Certainly, there are both pitfalls and positives with this potential change. On the upside, novels and textbooks could become more accessible and easier to carry. On the downside, a minor paradigm shift could be a catalyst for piracy and copyright issues, potentially upending the stability of the entire industry. Google has already found itself in hot water for scanning books and putting them online. Whatís next?

Are you an author or publisher or book lover? Do you make a living working in the book industry? How do you like to read? In print? Online? On a Kindle? What do you hope for the future of books?

The Book Corner / Re: Upset about inaccurate Amazon book reviews...

Interesting. I hope they fix it!

I do see a difference with the people giving a low rating for price and the Lord of the Rings DVD pack. Finding something lacking in the set would be a valid reason to give it less than a great review/rating. You're reviewing the SET, the DVD, what's on them, what's lacking, the quality, etc. not just the movie itsself.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Gift card question
« on: April 30, 2009, 03:12:10 pm »
It can be tricky to find. Just log in to your Amazon account and click on "your account". Then click on "Apply a gift certificate/card to your account". Log in again. Enter the claim code. voila! It will use the credit before going to one click.

I often get my mom(s) books. A few years ago I got them

It's about women, traditions, etc. They LOVED it.

Here are mine, off the top of my head:

1) The Red Tent- Anita Diamant
2) My Sisters Keeper - Jodi Picoult
3) Lovely Bones- Alice Sebold
4) Unconditional Parenting - Alfie Kohn
5) Kite Runner- Khaled Hosseini
6) Playful Parenting- Lawrence Cohen
7) Dragonfly in Amber- Diana Gabaldon
8) Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone- J. K. Rowling
9) Dead to the World- Charlane Harris
10) A Series of Unfortunate Events- Lemony Snicket

What is It looks like a social networking site.

I also signed up with Harris Polls and haven't recieved many surveys. Maybe it takes awhile to get going.

Here are a couple I came across this morning, don't know how long they'll last!

Book Klub: Dead Until Dark / Re: Annoyed with book 6- Definitely Dead

That annoyed me to no end. There should be mention of it somewhere, and you shouldn't ahve to pay $10 to read one short story in a collection to feel like you know what's going on. It made me give that book a lower review because of it.

But, I've moved on and am now looking forward to the next book to come out! I'm considering reading another series of hers, anyone read anything else by her?

I've been using it for about 2 weeks and have 30 swagbucks. I've been happy with it! Installing the toolbar really helps. I also installed it on the work break computer. It doesn't take over the toolbar, it just adds it to the drop down menu so you can choose from it. Having it on the toolbar means by husband will use it, too.

It's fun when you get a buck. And I haven't noticed any difference in how my computer is running (no additional pop ups, etc. ). thanks for sharing with us!

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Amazon policy wrt GLBT books
« on: April 13, 2009, 09:58:05 am »
There is so much info to read through. It's overwhelming! I do hope they fix it soon.

It sounds to me like the problem started long ago when they lumped all GLBT books in the "Adult" category regardless of content. Now suddenly they are de-ranking that category and all the books that have been in there are being de-ranked as well... is that right? So the problem started long ago when they lumped regular books with a GLBT character, or books to help a teenager come out, or WHATEVER in with the erotic books (GLBT or otherwise).

I tend to be an optimist- I HOPE it was just some oversight, or that they get enough flack that they fix it fast.

Kindle Accessories / Re: Has anyone ever tried this seller for skins?
« on: April 03, 2009, 09:19:39 am »
I know, the first time I went I thought I HAD to upload a photo or design of my own. Too much for me, so I left. Then I found you can click on "design" then "select an image" and you can brows through their designs. Then you can zoom, rotate, and align the design, add lettering if you want, etc.

I just noticed that they don't seem to have a K2 design! maybe I just missed it...

Kindle Accessories / Re: Show off your Kindle skins!!
« on: April 03, 2009, 09:15:54 am »
Here's mine- It's from I love it! The colors are brighter in person. They did take FOREVER to arrive, but excellent customer service and you can design your own (photo of my kid on the back? Maybe if I get a K2...) which is cool. I also found the quality better than my DG, but it seems that was maybe a fluke.

You know, I found my Decal Girl skin to be too grainy for my taste. I was disappointed, although others LOVE theirs. I suspect that maybe the printer was off or something, but their customer service wasn't great, so I've totally written off DG skins. I thought maybe I was just too nitpicky, but I ended up getting a Tego skin ( and love it. I just wonder if sometimes the printing is off (with any company) from time to time... although I seem to be the only one who had this issue with DG!
