Calibre can be such a pia.     There are about 25,000 plugins and stuff - so where do I add a code for a new Kindle in there?  I've spent about 30 minutes trying to find it and can't! 

I think Maurice was released quite a long time after Forster died, wasn't it? So I assume they copyright situation is a bit different... I'm waiting for that one too!

He wrote it in 1914, but it was published in 1971, I believe.  Shortly after he died.

To the OP; you're not alone. The show and books still intrigue me, but the last book bugged me a lot (character assassination of Dany for one) and I started to wonder if Martin had used a ghostwriter. While I'm also too well aware that Martin isn't my b.... as Neil Gaiman aptly put it, I do have to wonder about this guy who spends time working on other books, the HBO series, potentially developing another show for HBO, instead of forging ahead with The Winds of Winter. At the rate he's going, either we will find out how the books end based on the show, or the show will go on hiatus for a loooooooooooooooooong time so Martin can play catch up. Neither of which sounds great. Maybe Martin can miss out on X number of readers / viewers who give up waiting so long, but it doesn't seem a smart approach.

Martin told the showrunners how he intends to end the series, so they can always forge ahead of him with his own story.  Or just change the ending to how they want it!

I agree with you on the last book in general; it was tedious and Dany chapters were interminable.  But I have a theory that Dany could turn out to be the Voldemort of Westeros.  And perhaps Martin always set her up for that turn!  There's already a lot of set-up for that if Martin chooses that path.

We've been waiting a long time for this!  Of course in the US we'll have to wait even longer than the lucky UKers!   

I agree that it's stunning how the writers (one of the main writers is the actor who plays Mycroft) have managed to update the stories while using so much of the originals.  Fascinating twists, so even if you've read the stories you really can't anticipate what they'll do with it.

As far as the ending of series 2 - the writers said there is something in there on the screen that people haven't caught that explains how...I can't believe after so many decades we still can't discuss Sherlock's "death?"

I really do love the fact that Rowling submitted this novel to several publishers and they all rejected it.  Only one has come clean about it though.

Well, the leaker's identity has been revealed.  A partner at a law firm that knew the pseudonym told his wife's best friend.  She tweeted about it when she saw a journalist remark that the book was very confidently written.  That friend must now be in some serious dog house.

I just saw this on the news.  Very interesting move by her and smart.  "Casual Vacancy" was getting so much attention and pressure because of who she is.  This one was judged on its own merits, without any baggage attached.

That really is a Throne anyone would be in awe of, which is what Martin always writes.  The one on the show is sort of cool, but pretty, too pretty.  This image here is, as you say, "Holy tetanus!  I am in awe of thee!"

I am very much a fan of Apple products and I am very much not on Apple's side in this situation.  The reason Apple orchestrated this whole thing is quite obvious to me: they are a business and their responsibility is to make money.  No business that is for profit is in it to make their customers happy.  No, not even Amazon.  They are in it to make money, to earn profits for their shareholders, etc.  Making customers happy is how they make money.  And Apple, which I do agree has a lot of contempt for their customers, also makes products that their customers like.  A lot.  Myself included.  When Apple, which has controlled the music digital download market for years (and created the very 9.99 per album structure that they later decided they opposed with ebooks), released a product that Amazon took control of much sooner (remember, Steve Jobs said people don't read), it was Apple's responsibility to their shareholders to break Amazon's monopoly on the ebook market.  How they went about doing it is what got them in trouble.  But the fact that they were doing something is completely understandable.

Prices on Amazon would not have remained at 9.99, as others have pointed out above.  We only have to look at the iTunes store for proof: Apple got customers addicted to their online store and the 9.99 per album structure - but it no longer exists.  They raised prices on music eventually.  And prices would have gone up on ebooks as well because Amazon is not a benevolent benefactor who just wants to make us all happy.  For example, I have noticed over the past month or so that my Amazon Prime free shipping membership isn't worth as much as it used to be because a lot of items I previously bought and had shipped for free have now become "Add On" items.  Which means I have to purchase $25 of other stuff before I can get free shipping on these now "Add On" items.  No more "Oops, I forgot to get some razor blades, nevermind, free shipping!" because those razor blades are now an Add On item.  I suspect this is only going to get worse.  Amazon is a business, in it to make money first and foremost.  How the publishers did not realize this, and so blatantly colluded with Apple, says a lot about their own stupidity.  Apple's behavior, though not their understanding of the law (or lack of understanding), is perfectly normal.

There are honestly no POV characters that I don't like.  So I never had the "groan" when seeing who the next chapter is about.  However, I did miss certain characters more than others.  Wait until you get to "A Feast for Crows" - that might be your most challenging read because a number of the main characters have no chapters there at all! 

And one thing I absolutely have refused to do is take drugs like Ambien.  I know a few people who are literally addicted to it and I just don't want to go down that road.
