Writers' Cafe / Re: Editor for a christian manuscript

I'm a full time author and always have my material edited.

My editor is Daphne Parsekian. Very reasonable prices, fast turn around, and very sharp eyes. She spent over 15 years as an editor and has edited books/ebooks (both traditionally published and self published), magazines, web content, newsletters, personal editing for pastors' (esp. sermons) etc. She also holds a degree in English.

Trust me -If you don't chose her your making a mistake.

Here is her link on elance:

Tell her Adam sent you. She'll treat you good.

How often do they update their sales does anyone know? Is it daily or hourly or what?

Hey, I have the Answer.

Things start picking up TODAY.
I am noticing it! maybe it was low traffic on a holiday, or due to all these changes amazon is doing on the site.

Preach if I remember right, you are in a speciality category.   Now I am curious about something.  You mentioned your sales quadrupled.   Did you go from 1 to 4 books sold? 10 to 40 books sold?  100 to 400 sold?  1000 to 4000 sold?    Is it possible you sold to all your potential readers?
And is this on one book or 3 dozen?
Also the 28th was only a week ago and we did just have the last long holiday weekend of the summer.
Have faith my friend.

400 to 1600. a large portion was from one book, but the rest came from about 18 others. I can't saturate my market. There are about 750 million or more born again, non denomination Christians world wide.

Hush up you people tripling and quadrupling and quintupling and sextupling... All was going well for my sales, then dipped horribly and miserably over the past three days.

lol, yeah that's really the basic reason of why I'm asking. My sales just tanked... They fell literally in half about 5 days ago. >:(
I didn't know if it was just me or if things might pick up here or what...

yeah I did well in august, over quadrupled my monthly sales. but on aug 28 my sales fell through the floor and things never picked back up. In fact they keep spiraling down... I thought maybe things were just slower right now, but maybe the algos are hating me  :(

When do sales begin picking back up again? This month or next or november? When does it pick up for you?

As I recall, the Fourth of July wasn't part of a 3-day weekend. I'm sure that has to make a difference.

Probably so... I never thought I'd see the day that I was eager for a 3 day weekend to end..

Heck fourth of july was better for me than this though :(

Is it just me or are the sales extra cruddy right now? My sales for the past week dropped 50-60% for the entire month and drop another 50% today when compared with yesterday. :o

Is it this bad for you?

Note to self: When a book has a lot of bad reviews revise it and repub  ;D

If you open your own publishing company you can still use LS. How do I know? Because I go through LS. Check the local laws in your area before doing anything. I opened it as a sole proprietor, but you need to see what will work best for you.

Now for the real question. If you owned harper collins and published your book through your company would that make you self pubbed? It's your company!
If not then i guess I'm trad pubbed, but I own and operate the company.  8)

Amazon being down in itself probably hurt sales.

yeah, that didn't help neither  >:(

Yeah my sales slowed down here too. I have one book that is doing good and I think all my other sales are readers of that book buying my other copies. After a promo I got 8 sales one day organically, then 5 the next, now its nothing.

I usually do alot better. I think amazon is messing with some things and changing their website.

BUT apparently microsoft went down a while and google was out for 5 minutes too. So maybe the hacker theory has some foundation.

Has anyone's sales been affected by this?

Writers' Cafe / What's going on at amazon?

Does anyone know what's going on at amazon? The website was down on monday, and for me it was something like 30-45 minutes. (I sat at my chair clicking the link every couple minutes) I read in a news article that they lost $120k a minute, which would be over $5,000,000 of loss  :o

Their review page has changes on it. The algos changed. My book sold an extra 60 books from a small promo, then after amazon went down my book was listed on page 4 instead of two, and that's after a promo!  >:(

Author rank keeps breaking, books aren't listing in the proper categories, etc.

Then when I contact them I receive the exact same canned answer, which is not normal. "The technicians are fully aware of the problem and are working to fix the issue. I'm sorry but there are currently no estimates for when it will be fixed. I'm sorry about the inconvenience this may cause you."

Does anyone have any ideas what might be going on?

Th algos just changed actually, and the website still has bugs since the update. I promoted a book that sold decent, then after the promo rather than having sales they cliffed and it died. I checked the placement on the search engine. It used to be page two on multiple pages, but now its page 4-5.

I don't ask people to complain or report my book as free elsewhere. I've had one book go free in three days, and one that I waited for over two months before it finally price matched to free. I've heard of authors waiting six months.

I won't tell you where I got this information, but I heard that if you stand on one foot while wearing a tin foil hat, holding a hot dog and humming The Star Spangled Banner, Amazon will notice your free book and price match it faster.

I think that's my problem right there. I keep eating the dang hotdog before amazon looks at me.

Writers' Cafe / Behold! The Power Of Free!
« on: August 14, 2013, 08:04:34 pm »
I thought it would make a funny title to say, "Behold The Power Of Cheese Free!"

But At any rate I wanted to let some of you know what's been going on. A few of you already know that I was contacted by a publisher recently. But what caught their attention was my FREE BOOK, not my paid books. For obvious reasons they didn't want to purchase the rights to the book (being free and all), but they saw I had some potential.

As some of you also know I'm a non-fiction writer, and being such they asked me to send in some book proposals. After all has been said and done, I came to the conclusion that I have more power, flexibility, and profit as a self-pubbed author.

It felt SO good to be approached by a publisher, and even better to turn them down.  8)

But I just wanted to encourage you about free books. People see them and notice you. You get more visual, and can begin creating a following with them. But I think it's good to mention that not only consumers are seeing your books, but publishers and other professionals as well.
Could you expect to be contacted by a publisher for having a free book? I don't think that's an ordinary occurrence. They're in the game for profit. But being free gets your books more visual, and there are many more eyes looking at it than you think. My free book is far more visual than my paid and it got me noticed. In one way or another it'll get you noticed to.

And one last note! Always have a print book for your free e-book...... I recently got slammed with requests for a print version and I was being stupid and never made one!  :-[

I really didn't think it mattered but hey a couple bucks is a couple bucks right?

Now I know that most of you on here know all this stuff about perma-free already, but I hope it's an encouragement to you.  ;)

Writers' Cafe / How long does it take for price matching to take effect?
« on: August 14, 2013, 07:46:12 pm »
I don't currently have a title to free price match. I may have one soon though. my last one took 3 weeks all organically. but how long does it usually take if I have people complain about it? and how many people does it take? is there a golden number that seems to work?

When posting to this thread how long does it take for a title to go free? and how many people usual complain before amazon price matches?

Has anyone else had issues with d2d generated documents not spacing paragraphs correctly?

I have them spaced in my word document but their generator doesn't recognize them and it make my book look terrible  :'(

Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

Yeah I'm clueless I know.  ::)

But I am starting to wade in deeper waters now and I have no clue why there are two publishing platforms on barnes and nobel. What the heck is that about!? I am so confused!  ???

What's the difference between the two and what should I be doing to maximize profit?

plz help me! :'(
