Writers' Cafe / Re: Author Narrating Audiobook / ACX

I'm at the same stage you are. Since I have several titles, I'm hoping to put together a small studio at home and do my own recordings and then send them out for editing. From my research, listeners like the idea of the author reading their own books. But like you, I'm still testing the waters with my voice. I just did a video trailer using my voice as a test but the jury is still out. Either way I think Audio is becoming a necessity for an indie author.

A little Romance, A little Mystery, A lot of laughs…

Salty Tails is a sarcastic, dog-hating cat, who thinks humans are here for two things and two things only; to feed and entertain him. To that end, Salty lives with his human partner, the emotional scarred, Thomas ‘Stormy’ McGuire, on a houseboat in Marina del Rey.
While Salty and Stormy are investigating a string of stolen boats, a friend is found dead in the water. It’s up to Stormy and Salty to find the connection. As if Stormy didn’t have enough to deal with, he suddenly finds himself the target of two women. One he thinks he’s in love with, the second claims only to be a friend. Can Stormy’s wounded heart survive? Set sail with Salty Tails as he shares this bi-coastal tale of love and intrigue.

“Loved the characters!” kasullivan

This is a book about Stormy and his side kick cat Salty Tails and both of their friends. Salty and his friends dialogues had me laughing and their human owners understood what they saying. A must read.

 5.0 out of 5 stars Scrumptious, June 26, 2013

Pirate Tales is a fun and exciting read.
I was quickly caught up in the lives of Stormy, Salty, Monica, Cuervo and the other human and animal characters who populate the story. The characters live in the coastal area of Marina Del Rey, California. They are easy going, living an idyllic houseboat existence, and through their conversations and interactions I grew to like them more and more as the story progresses. They are the type of people that I would like to hang out with.
With healthy doses of good natured humor, much of it supplied by the self-absorbed pets, Salty (the cat) and Cuervo (the dog), the relative calm of their lives is broken up by stolen boats and a mysterious death. Mix in a little romance, and you have a scrumptious reading experience.
I can just imagine that Jimmy Buffett would enjoy reading this book while laying in a hammock on the beach in Margaritaville.
