Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: The Kindle is 11 today
« on: November 26, 2018, 12:57:27 pm »
Happy Birthday Kindle! I got the K1, I think in May 2008, when you could actually buy it & get it right away after the Nov. Launch. I had the Sony ereader before the kindle. I had every kindle up until  the paperwhite 2. Then I got the Voyage, then the Oasis 1 & 2. I also followed Leslieís crumbs. I still love reading more on my kindle. It is also my most precious posession. There is a time for reading on the kindle & on a paper book. If a book is not formated right for a kindle, I will get a paper book. If itís a reference book, Iíll get both kindle & paper book.

When I tried to download a few books that I previously bought. The books wouldnít show up on my kindle. I did have my wifi on & I also had the ďon deviceĒ on. I changed that to the books in my cloud, on my kindle. The books then showed up.

My button doesnít work on my Oasis, I have to press on my library on my home screen. Swiping doesnít work either.
Edit - I found where someone said to press the button twice. It worked! Thanks! I also love the battery % showing on the home page, and always the time showing as i just seem end up going to bed really late when Iím reading. I wonder why? 😳 I also changed the time on my Oasis 2 for DST a few days ago.

I was just wondering if - settings - accessibility - display size - large, to put on the battery %, caused my kindle to use more of the battery? I thought that my battery went down further, but not sure. Anyone notice this happening?
I like the Oasis 1 hand grasp better on the case. On the new Oasis, itís too wide. I have small hands. The rest that I tried out so far, I really like. Bolder texts, white texts on black, which I usually puse at night. More words on a page. I can use a smaller font, because of the boldness, which also means more words on a page. I like the buttons. The kindleís snappier. I love it that I open the cover & withing a few seconds the home page appears. I donít have SO, because that was my only choice when ordering. It was well worth the extra $20. In the Oasis 1, i had to wait for it to start, then swipe. The voyage, swiping maybe more than once. Plus, the Voyage would skip multiple pages - swiping or pressing the case.
I like my sandstone cover, except that the batteryís not as strong as previous covers, as everyone has already said.
Atunah, sorry about your story of getting a replacement. Contacting CS anywhere is stressful to me as well. Iím glad that you got the replacement so quickly. Iím happy for those who like their new kindles, & feel dissapointed for those that got a kindle that they had problems with.

Thanks shinytop for the percentage info. as well. I lost wifi due to hurricane winds the night before. Didnít hae wifi yesterday & this morning. I couldnít get on the internet. Today, after it was fixed, I checked my cc. Yes, it got pinged. I checked my email. Yes, itís out for delivery. Then I raced back and forth to open door & check as well as checking out or delivery. Came around 1:50. Unboxed quickly. I skipped the wifi at first. Big mistake. ďUpdateĒ I clicked it off. I then raced to get my wifi router password. Couldnít find download update in. ďdevice info.Ē Thankfully, after awhile, I got the update message. I got the update. Then, my kindle was freezing, so I rebooted. Still not good. I plugged it in. The battery was less than half. Still freezing. I rebooted. It worked. Then I downloaded a lot of books. Review later. No more time for exploring tonight.

I generally put on wifi on my Oasis every night to get books. Then I turn it off. I will put on wifi again every other morning. When I charge it up. Then I turn off wifi. I still haven't gotten the update. Should I just leave wifi on all night long? I was wondering if that would make a difference in getting the update. Anyone's thoughts on this.

Sounds like a nice update. Anything to improve the contrast is worthwhile. I'm still waiting for my Oasis to update. Didn't check my other devices yet.

Those are great suggestions. Thank you. I'm going to write them down. Unfortunately, I don't live near an Apple store. The sites froze. Safari didn't work.  I think it was from this update. There is also a "cyber" attack that is going on. However, My old iPhone 5/tablets worked. I had read, then promptly forgot  about the change in rebooting. You hold the power & the volume down button simultaneously. It worked!! I got this site & amazon back on. Safari works.

12
I got the update today & downloaded it. This afternoon, I clicked on my KBoards's app. The screen froze. Same with amazon. Safari won't work at all now. I have the cell or wifi working fine. I'm not sure what to do.

Is that for the iPhone 7 only or the 7 & 7+?

14
My 7+ arrived yesterday! Yeah! I was not able to see the plus size in a store, so I sort of compared it to my kindle & fire. When, I saw the size, I was thrllled. It wasn't too big. Thank you rasputina & others that said that they liked their plus size phones. Helped me make my choice easier. I compare it to my 5, my 5 looks so small next to it. I love it so far. However, the finger on the home button doesn't always work. I'm not sure yet how to pay with Apple Pay in a store & in an app yet. I couldn't do that on my 5. Does anyone know how? Do you use it?

It took a long time to order. About 45min's wait on phone. Then almost a 2 hour wait for a call back. My phone is on my father's account at T-Mobile. I think you can have up to 6 phones on it. The Customer Care Rep spoke to my father to authorize. She asked for the password to his account. That's where I encountered a problem. I had one, but she said that it was a 5 digit ONLY password, mine was more than 5 digits. I told her that, but she never said that it could be more than 5 digits. She finally figured out what to do, asking me more questions. I gave a new password. After I hung up with her, I realized that the new password was more than 5 digits.  :'( Everything worked out in the end. I ordered the iPhone 7 Plus, 128GB, Rose color.  :D

Thanks for posting this. I read that some people had problems . Glad it's fixed.

I still have my iPhone 5. So far, I'm planning on getting one this time. I'm not sure if I should get the 7 or the 7 plus because of the camera. It would also be easier to read on a larger size. Did anyone get a larger size in previous versions & thought the size was too large?

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Color eReader from Amazon in Fall 2016?
« on: July 06, 2016, 08:05:04 pm »
I want a color kindle. I read certain books - art, sketchnotes (images used to convey information). I don't always feel like reading them on my Fire. Also, I take my kindle when I go out, not my Fire.

The other day, I left my Oasis on wifi for a few hours plugged in. I got the page flip. Today, I put the wifi on my PW2 & Voyage. Got it right away on my PW2, but not my Voyage. Tonight, I'm trying my Voyage again. Nothing yet on my Voyage . Now, I have the wifi on ny PW1. I may not know if it has it unless I see it the download happening like my PW2, when ny kindle looked like it was rebooted/ restarted. I only have a couple of books on my PW1, so who knows at this point, since I don't know if the book has page flip. I'll check later.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: 3G or Wifi
« on: May 22, 2016, 08:29:30 pm »
I don't have time now to check my collection on my Kindle, but it's a good reminder to put these books on my Oasis - I have found some kindle books (can't remember the name) that list the order of books in a series. It's great, because when I finish reading the book, I go to these books, look up the book that I finished & highlight the book so I know that I read the book. I'll let you know later. I also write the book series down on paper & check the books off when I finish. Anyway, using the 3G on my Oasis in the hospital drained my battery very quickly, so maybe it was the hospital setting. I'll have to experiment with 3G some other place whenI have enough time to put it to the test. In the meantime, I'm keeping my wifi/3G off all the time, everywhere, except when I need to use it, which is usually daily. It could just be my kindle, or it leads me to ask, did Amazon use a good quality battery? Is the battery the same as previous kindles? As for getting a 3G/wifi vs. wifi, I never used my phone as a hotspot for my kindle even though I could have if I wanted. Too much of a hassle to do when I was at work, as I had to move my kindle or whatever at a moments notice. There were more times than not that I wished that I had gotten a 3G/wifi kindle.
