I have always kept only what I was reading on my kindle until now. My older kindles were all 3G and I could download a book anytime. My pw is wifi only, so I put them all on it. I have about 150 books. I only have 4 collections. Read, To Read, Kids and Recipes.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Kindle pre-orders and gift certificates

I preordered a video game recently and it let me pay for it with gift cards right then and then later I added another gc to my account and it reminded me that I had a remaining balance due on the game and asked if I would like to apply the gc to that preorder.

I wanted to do that same that same thing with two preordered books due out in December, but it won't let me. I would like they better so that I don't have to remember the charges will come out then. I thought it was strange that you can do it with some things but not kindle books.

Karen Kingsbury is one of my favorites, but those all still come up for 9-10.00 :( Is it just me, or is it glitchy?

ETA: It looks like they are updating it now.

I am enjoying cover view right now, because I only have 4 collections and 2 books I am currently reading. It fits them all on the screen nicely. I like seeing the covers. I do wish that the collections view worked a little different. The cover with the name of the collection on it is kind of blah. I don't think I will leave it this way for long though, because I don't like having to turn off the store, just to see 6 covers. They should really take away those book advertisements at the bottom. Especially on kindles that do not have SO.

That is so nice  :)

If you have the SO kindle, there is an offer for 30% off select covers/sleeves. Maybe she will like one of those.

I've been keeping mine between 5 and 11. 11 in the living room with the light coming in the windows and the TV on. 5-7 in the dark.

I got mine yesterday (I said some of this in the shipping thread) and I love it! I was hoping to still use my Kindle Touch sometimes because I was perfectly happy with it, but I don't see myself doing it now. The PW is great for me. I miss the home button, but that is all. I really like the way the screen feels. I find myself wanting to swipe to turn the page instead of just tapping just so I can feel it.  :D I really like that I don't jump chapters by up or down swiping. I read a lot with my 11 month old in my lap and he changed chapters a lot. I love that his blanket (or whatever else accidentally touched the screen) doesn't turn pages anymore and that I can wipe off the screen a cloth without the page turning. The touch screen really picked up dust and lint IMO and this one isn't doing that as much, so that is a plus too.

The light works great for me. I had a Amazon lighted cover for my Touch and I used the light almost all of the time with it. I just like the extra light on the page. The PW is perfect for me. I have been keeping it kind of low at about 7-11 and really enjoying the reading experience.

I can see the 4 lights at the bottom and the shadow in certain lights, but it doesn't bother me at all.

I have had the Kindle Keyboard with lighted cover, Kindle Touch with lighted cover and now this one and I have to say that I have loved each of them, but loved the next one more than the last.

Okay, I love it! I can't wait till it is charged up so I can play more but I really like it. I have been using a kindle touch with lighted cover and I was perfectly happy with it, but I just had to have this one. I see the lights at the bottom but they don't bother me at all. The only thing I am going to have to get used to is the missing home button. My hand automatically goes there for it and I will have to get used to the extra touch. Other than that it is perfect for me!

Kindle Accessories / Re: Amazon official cover for Paperwhite

I wish they had a nice medium-to-dark purple...

oh me too! that is the color I always wish for with the covers. I am happier with these, than I was with the touch covers though. I didn't really like any of those.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Kindle with special offer. Does it bother you?

Really?  I wondered if they'd do that. But I haven't seen any paperwhite ads on my K3 yet.  What kind of a "special offer" are they offering?

yea, no offer about it. just a picture of it and a buy it on your kindle option. There is one real offer to every 5 or 6 ad's lately. Most are new movie releases.

All of the Kindles, Nooks, iPads etc at our Walmart are always dead anyway. All you can do is touch them, not try them out.

The ads have never bothered me at all until now. Every time I look at my kindle ( touch) it is showing the paper white ad and making me want it. lol.

The same thing happens to me with MediaImpressions ( the software that came with my video camera).

Under Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\AutoPlay ( on windows 7) you can change the default way devices are opened if they contain different media. That is what was happening to mine, so maybe that will fix yours too.

Kindle Accessories / Re: KT Waterproof Case
« on: June 21, 2012, 02:43:03 pm »
You can't just use a ziplock on the Kindle Touch because the bag touches the screen and the pages turn. That trendy digital case has little foam pieces you stick to the kindle or the cover and that raises the plastic up so it won't touch unless you want it to touch.

I have the opposite trouble. I have deleted books from my MYK page and they are still in my archives. They aren't in the MYK page anymore, so I can't delete them again, but they are still in my archives. I tried to get Kindle support to help, but they just keep telling me to delete them from the MYK page.

The Book Corner / Re: Do you ever read the book AFTER seeing the movie?
« on: December 08, 2011, 08:15:10 am »
Yes and it is the only way I end up enjoying both. If I watch the movie after I read the book, I hate the movie. If I read the book second I can still enjoy both. I love Water for Elephants, the book and the movie. Divine Secrets of the Yaya Sisterhood and Fried Green Tomatoes are two others that I read after I watched the movie and enjoyed both versions.

I like Christmas stories all year, just like I enjoy books that take place in the summer at Christmas time. I just like a good story, no matter when it takes place.  :P

Other (non-Kindle) eReaders / Re: Cancelled B&N account and lost my books.
« on: November 03, 2011, 03:03:27 pm »
I am having horrible problems with my B&N account.  I think my books are tied to my credit card and not my account (like Amazon).  I changed cards and now I have soooo many issues.  I havent been able to buy a book in weeks.  And my previous purchased books no longer open (even though the account never changed, just the card).  It is a mess.

I really like this little Nook touch, but really hate shopping on it.

This is why I went with the Kindle instead. I could never get my books to work after I changed my credit card info.

Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting (Kindle) / Re: Is this a crack?

I don't know. He didn't specify. I assume its a refurbished one, but I really don't care as long as it works and has no scratches or cracks ;).

This is what I do with my sister in law. She has her kindle set up under my account, but she does not have my log in information. She doesn't buy from the kindle so we do not have to keep track of what she owes me. She logs into with her own information and clicks "give as gift" for any book she buys. She pays for it with her own credit card and Amazon emails me and I confirm the gift and have the book sent to her Kindle.  We do it this way so she can still read my books and I can read hers, but we don't have to worry about how much gift card she has left over. It works.

Thanks again for your help. I called tonight and they are replacing my Kindle as well as refunding the price of my skin ( because they don't have it in stock anymore, so they can't just replace it) so that I don't ruin it by transferring it to the replacement Kindle.

Thank you for your help. I can not feel it with my fingernail or anything. My warranty is up in February, but I still may call support and ask some questions. I hate to have to get a new one though because redoing collections and stuff doesn't sound fun.

Thanks for your help again!

It's not just something on the screen. It's been there for a week or so.
