The Book Corner / Re: The Outlander - Diana Gabaldon
« on: November 24, 2008, 05:40:11 am »
I found Outlander a few years ago and was able to get all my books signed when A Breath of Snow and Ashes came out and Diana did a book signing in Jacksonville.

I have the thistle ring with the Da mi basia mille inscription.

They also now have Brianna's bracelet too along with other Outlander jewlery.

I was at that book signing too!  Are you still in Jacksonville?

I love it when someone discovers Outlander and feels about it the way I do.  Your journey has just begun.

Me too!  I have convinced so many people to read the series!  :D

Thanks for the great ideas!  I just discovered there's a Coinstar machine right near me...and an extra $10 sounds great too!  Maybe this is a way I can fund my Amazon addiction...

Hi FearNot!

It's so great to see you here...your post on the other board is what finally helped push me into hitting the order button for my Kindle...thank you!  (I was K.A. Cott over there).

What skin are you getting?  I'm still trying to decide!

« on: November 24, 2008, 04:38:26 am »
I just used it once when I was out of town and trying to find directions to a certain town.  I needed to know within an hour or so and it was 2 days later that the answer came.  I got the directions elsewhere (obviously) but mostly I wanted to give it a try since it was one of the features on my Kindle that I hadn't played with yet.

Still have mine...way too pretty to toss.  I'm sure I'll find a good use for it (at least that's what I tell myself!)...

rofl.  which part?  the part about eric (btw, the director did an excellent job of casting the part of Eric in True Blood.  But I digress.) or the part about Claire?

I think that's why I couldn't get into The Outlander the first time I tried to read it:  I kept expecting Henry to pop in.  I had JUST finished TTW, and there she was again.  It was way too weird.  I blame her for my (pre-existing) drinking problem.

The part about Claire...loved TTW, but I had already read the Outlander series once (have now read it like 5 times and am anxiously awaiting the next book).  I am on book 5 of the Southern Vampire mysteries...I loved Eric in book 4.

I'm a red wine girl...merlot, cabernet, shiraz.  A really good red wine to accompany a cozy evening of reading is Writer's Block.

Has thinking that the Claire from the Outlander series might also be the Claire from The Time Traveler's Wife driven anyone else to drink?  Or cured them of their drinking habit entirely?

Also, I think if you have wine with Sookie and Bill, it must be red.  And clearly, you haven't met Eric yet.

Oh...wow!  I never thought of that!   LOL...I think I need a glass of wine!

I only drink when I am alone or with somebody.

L

Don't the people in the books count?  It is nice to settle in with a glass of wine with Jamie and Claire, or Sookie and Bill...   ;)

LOL  Did I leave the gas on?

I've read The Stupidest Angel, You Suck, and A Dirty Job.  I've kind of skimmed some of the others but I didn't really get into his earlier ones.  A Dirty Job was really interesting...I liked it.

:D  Yes, no...I was dead at the time!

I'm the same way...every time I would go to grab it I would realize I had given it to someone!  It was one of the first books I checked for in the Kindle store.  Have you read his other books?

In looking for one wine today (b/c you can't ship wine to TN, GA, MS, AL, KY, or anywhere else I know people), I found Evil Red and Evil White.  I got the Red.  It went fairly well with Lamb.

The kindle book.  Not the meat.

Robin,

You like red wine, Lamb (the book!) and Eddie Izzard (cake or death)...we could be best friends!!

A nice Merlot or Cabernet and a good book on my Kindle is a most wonderful way to spend an evening!  I'll have to try to Double Decker Red!

ME TOO on Trixie Belden!  I still have most of the series and refuse to let them go.  Maybe someday I'll have a granddaughter to share them with.  After she takes a vow to honor and cherish them, of course. And I would also buy them for Bibi, in a heartbeat, if they were available.  8)

Trixie Belden was my favorite too!  I did pass them on to my daughter and she fell in love with them as well.  I would love to have them available to put on Brigit (my Kindle!)...

Tree of Life is my favorite too.  So, if we order now do we need to specify "the one with the corners"...or are they automatically doing away with the velcro?

Just let us know the next time you are ordering something Jim, and we'll cheer you on!   ;)

At the moment I'm waiting for my new Blackberry Storm to arrive tomorrow.  Won't be in near as pretty a box as my Kindle...and nothing will quite top the moment of opening that box...but I am still excited.

OMG you are making me fall out of my chair laughing.  I have been watching and waiting with you and am so excited for Vampyre.  Makes me re-live the wonderful agony of waiting and pure joy of opening my Kindle!   :D  Wish I had found my way here while I was waiting for mine...what awesome support!

I just checked Oberon's website and the Kindle covers were still there.  Whew!  I have the Tree of Life on my Christmas list...which is making me crazy because I so want to order it now!

Anyway...hopefully they still have plenty and are making more quickly...

Not Quite Kindle / Re: Twilight Movie

How was it?  Hmm...I thought it was okay.  My 16 year old daughter loved it, my 18 year old daughter was disappointed.  I thought the first half was so-so, but then the second half was better.  I really liked Bella, Carlisle and Alice.

My Kindle finally has a name!   :D

She is Brigit...

Named after the Celtic goddess...Brigit's triple aspects are of Inspiration, Smithcraft, and of Healing. As the Goddess of Inspiration, she blesses poetry, creativity, prophecy and the arts. She was even esteemed as the patron diety of language, having inspired the alphabet.

I'm so glad she has a name now!

Linda, you were right...her name just revealed itself when it was right.  A lesson in patience!

Anyone else see it last night?  What did you think?
