Anything Else Amazon / Re: Just got Amazon Prime

I agree with hide your credit card! I am so addicted to the 3.99 one day shipping and free two day shipping... I buy almost everything from Amazon since I signed up for Prime! I have even found myself finding stuff at the store and checking Amazon to see if it is cheaper! LOL Congrarts!

Writers' Cafe / Re: Books by Their Covers: What Else Do You Judge?
« on: March 12, 2015, 07:36:11 pm »
First I look at the cover. I hate covers that look like they are not done well.
The blurb is second. If it is super long than I generally get bored and go on to the next book. If the blurb is saying unnecessary things about the book that I will find out in the book (character names IE: Joe McGill is the cop that saves the day etc..) I just want short and sweet. When I am looking for a book I want to be drawn in, but not spend hours searching through blurbs.
The third is the price. Have I heard of this author before? If no then I generally will not pay much for the book. If I have read previous books by that author I may pay a little more.
I always read the sample first! That has to draw me into the book!

Amazon customer service is usually fantastic.    Amazon author service sometimes no so much.     What exactly did you ask them?   That makes a difference.
If you ask why can't I see my best seller tag, the service rep may have no clue what you are talking about.

Now to be honest with you, that tag is not that important to most customers.    If your book looks good, people will buy it.  If not, then people won't.   That little orange tag will not make me buy a book.

THIS! I have never bought a book because of a tag and TBH I do not even see a tag on any books!? I buy mostly books I find on Goodreads, I will sometimes check out Amazon if I am bored to find new books but have never bought a book based on a best selling tab. I doubt this is the reason your sells are going down. Sells go up and down that is all there is to it. I would not worry so much about it.

You can turn off the side "buttons" in settings and just use the touch screen. Of course if it only happens when you pick it up and you want to use the side buttons, that won't help you.
Can't say that happened to me yet, even though I do take it out of my cover all the time. Have you tried with a cover yet? I use the Fintie and its so easy to pop out, not like the official paperwhite was.

But then I was one of the ones that never had any accidental page changes with the K1 either and I know its large all across down buttons did cause some to accidental change pages.

Out of the cover, I seem to only pick it up by grabbing from the bottom. I think I have always done that with the kindles since the keyboard. So I would grab the keyboard and not the screen. Now without the keyboard I still do it that way.

I usually snap it back into the cover if I lay it down for longer times or at night.

I had no idea I could turn it off! Thank you so much! This would help me a lot. I notice myself not really using them to turn the pages anyway.

I had a lot of problems finding any books I wanted to read in KU! I may try it again when there are more books available.

I travel a lot! I fly when I travel and up until very recently you were not allowed to use your kindle during take off and landing. For this reason I would travel with a paperback book because roughly 40 minutes of the flight you could not read. 20 minutes for takeoff and 20 for landing. Thankfully, now you are able to use your kindle on the whole flight so I do not need paperback books any longer! You may want to think about adding that as a plus! ;) Nice article!

I am still deciding if I am keeping the voyage or not. I keep accidentally turning pages when I pick it up or put it down. If I do keep it I am going to give the other one to someone I know or have my boyfriend find a good home for it. Would rather have someone using it than it sitting around!

Writers' Cafe / Re: Responding to reviews...

The only agenda I was putting forward with my book was some of us cant take six months to a year to ride around the world and there's plenty of cool things to explore on your own continent.

My foot's fine, though I don't know what you're going on about there?

As for the agenda thing. I come out of independent feature film, where everybody has an agenda and it's all very political and rife with turf wars. So criticism is rarely about the work and more about who has more power. I guess what I was trying to say, poorly as it were, is when you look at a review or a critique, you need to figure out is it about the work or is it about the reader and their own issues.

Wow, you made your post even worse. As a reader that only reason I post reviews are to help other readers choose books. I use reviews to sort out what I want to read and I feel that other readers do also. If this is an agenda than you got me on that one... even one star reviews are often not trying to be "mean" it is just how they felt.

I'd say don't even vent on KBoards unless you're keeping your author name a secret. Readers read these boards, too, and seeing an author complain about reviewers is a great way to get yourself added to those readers' "Do Not Read" lists.

As I was sitting here reading this thread that was what was going through my mind! I leave reviews for every book I read and they are not always 5 star reviews. I have had authors comment back to me on a few and it really irritates me! I leave the reviews for other readers that may feel the same way I did, I never leave reviews for the author only (if at all). The poem was cute, but post it here not as a response to the review.

On a side note this thread is so funny! Love all the little poems!

Wow! I had no idea readers sent personal emails to authors! That to me is just silly! All readers have their opinions and as long as they did not also leave a bad review I would just trash it! LOL! Good luck in future books and hope you have better readers soon! ;)

Writers' Cafe / Re: Do KU borrows not count as verified purchases?
« on: March 09, 2015, 01:16:20 pm »
I do not really understand that tag anyway. For instance if I buy a paper back book from a local book store should I not review it? Also items that I buy elsewhere, such as a mop or video card etc.., I tend to leave reviews on Amazon when I get the chance. I feel that if a review is well written that should be enough.

I really like both! It is not my kind of book so I would not read it, but I love the cover! Great job!

Hi there.   How are you today?
How do you find readers or how do readers find you?

I was wondering this also. I had never heard of your site before and after looking over the site I have to say I am not in love. It is clumsy to use for me as a reader and hard to pull me away from Goodreads. What do you offer for readers to come to the site?

My first impression of this cover was that it is two males and romance. Does not scream YA or paranormal to me at all.

I think I got lost somewhere in this conversation..

Anyway! I hate dashes used in books more so when they are overused. That is just me though.

Do you guys actually ever say water closet or is it that the advertisers think we still do, or is it just to be amusing?

I have NO idea what a water closet is....

I would understand that from the context, but my mind automatically goes to a homeless person, or just a bum man or woman. I would get that it was a persons butt, but it may take a min for me.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Battery life on Kindle PW?
« on: March 16, 2014, 11:56:13 am »
I got a really good little device that takes 4 AA batteries and charges my smartphone and my kindle (PW). It's great to have around when you don't know about your ability to recharge. You can always get AA batteries and keep them in reserve.

I was about to mention this. There are tons of things that will charge devices for you. I have a little one that is the size of a tiny flashlight. I love it, and it keeps my kindle charged nicely. Look on Amazon for portable chargers.

I keep upgrading my Kindle every year... Maybe I should get help with that I think it may be an addiction! Anyway, I always give mine to someone. my Kindle Keyboard I actually donated to a site that sent them to troops. I would have donated my last one also, but my sisters broke so I gave one to her.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Prime bumped to $99
« on: March 16, 2014, 11:49:58 am »
I never got an e-mail but I did read about this elsewhere. I just started back to school last July so when I renew I will do the student one. I also just learned that if you have the $79 or the $99 one that you can add four people to your account to receive the free two day shipping. I almost never use the instant video thing, but I do shop a lot on amazon. I really should use the instant video more, but I was p*ssed when they removed Lost. Netflix still has it though. I know.... I am probably the only one who has not watched it all the way through yet!

I wouldn't worry too much about reviewers. I don't. I can't. For every review I get saying, "I love how it took the main couple so long to get together, so realistic" I get one that says, "I hate how long it took them to go to bed." You really cannot please every single person. It's just not possible.

Personally, my plan is to shop around for a developmental editor for my paranormal series because I'm not as adept at writing action scenes as I am just straight dialogue and emotional content. You might consider that.

I may be off the mark here, but I think the OP more meant that he/she is afraid of people loving what he/she writes now, so they read the romance books and does not like romance so gives the book a bad review. I personally do not do this, but then again I look at the book before I read it. Even if it is from an author I love.

I just stalked a GoodReads reviewer and asked her to post on Amazon.  :))))

Be careful doing this. If a person knows how to review on Goodreads they know how to on Amazon as well. Many people just do not want to post reviews on Amazon. Many readers review books for themselves, or other readers. Not for the author. They probably had a reason they only posted on GoodReads, and you can annoy a lot of people by soliciting reviews this way. It can harm you in the end. Just a heads up! :)
