Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting (Kindle) / How do you delete a kindle?
« on: October 11, 2011, 09:27:39 am »
When I use the one click option to buy a book I have a list of all the kindles I have ever owned, they are all de registered or sent back to amazon because they broke but they are still in my list! I have ONE kindle ATM and it is soo annoying to have to pick it out in the list all the time.

Kindle Accessories / Anyone else shopping for the new kindles yet?

Writers' Cafe / Price Drops
« on: October 06, 2011, 02:39:14 pm »
I have my whole TBR list on Shopping Notes so I can see any price changes (a lot of times if the book is made a lot cheaper I will go ahead and grab it to read later) anyway I was wondering why do authors drop there price by only a few cents? For example I got a notice a few minutes ago about a  book the old price was $2.70 and the new price is $2.63. What is the point of this? Does it really help sales?

I looked and didn't see this posted anywhere else hopefully it wasn't already! =)
Thought this was interesting.

Despite being available for pre-order for less than two days the new Kindles have shot to the top of Amazonís Best Selling Electronics list. The Kindle Fire, which was announced yesterday, is number one on the list right now, while number two is the $79 Kindle with Special Offers, which was also announced yesterday. Coming in third is the Kindle Touch (WiFi) with Special Offers, which, like the Fire, is a pre-order for a product that will be available in November.

Itís worth noting that Amazon dominates its top selling Electronics listĖKindles now rank from one down to twelve. Number thirteen is the Garming Nuvi 1450LMT portable GPS device. Item twelve, the Kindle Keyboard 3G (aka the old Kindle 3G), has been in the top 100 for an incredible 421 days, as has number ten, the Kindle Keyboard (WiFi). The point being that Amazon heavily promotes its own products and, when combined with their aggressive pricing, they can ensure that the Kindles are best-selling devices.

The Kindle Fireís top placement is interesting for a number of reasons. First of all, it has beaten out the $79 Kindle. This Kindle price drop was a big deal for Amazon and each progression drop under $100 will mean major sale increases for the Kindle readers. So despite the fact that the Kindle reader is shipping today and that itís quite affordable, the Kindle Fire still managed to overtake it.

The $99 Kindle Touch (pre-order) came in third and the $149 Kindle Touch 3G (pre-order) landed at fourth. Both of these are ďwith Special OffersĒ products, reflecting the success of Amazonís combination of a price drop and built-in advertising. So, despite the success of e-readers over the past year, there is still considerable price sensitivity with these items.

Back to the Kindle Fire, sales must have been considerable for it to hit the top spot. A lower-than-expected price surely played a factor here (the rumors had largely pointed towards a $250 device) and the slick UI and other perks helped as well. The importance of the Silk browser and connection with Amazonís cloud services might not have resonated with consumers, but it was clear that Amazon was doing something that was both different and significant.

The Kindle Fireís feasibility as an iPad competitor has yet to be seen, but it should be enough for most people and it certainly previewed well yesterday. Given the price, the features, and peopleís comfort with Amazonís products/brand itís not a total surprise that so many pre-orders were made yesterday and today.

Writers' Cafe / I almost chocked on my chips!

I always thought yeah I would if it was a book I wanted to read I would pay what the price was for an E-book of course never really seeing an E-book over 9.99 except for a new, new release once in awhile from someone I have read before and love IE: Dresden Files or a really well known author like James Patterson or Stephen King. Anyway I came across this book today on goodreads that looked sort of interesting and put it on my To be read list then went to amazon to see the price.. I was eating some apple chips at the time and about chocked on one when I see how much this 288 page book was! $15.40!!! The name of the book is The Singular Exploits of Wonder Mom and Party Girl if anyone wants to look at it. I have never even heard of this guy how does he sell any copies of this book!?

The Book Corner / How do you decide on a book?
« on: September 15, 2011, 05:06:20 pm »
Do you choose the book based on the cover, title, author, recommendation ? I have to admit I sometimes pick a book out because I like the cover (usually turns out to be a bad idea) but I am curious when you are looking for a new book to read how do you decide?
Is there anything about a books cover that won't make you buy a book? I personally am not a fan of romance so if the cover has a half naked man on it or a couple in a bed etc I won't even read what it is about. Now half naked men IRL are a different story!!!  ;)

The Book Corner / Is this stealing or wrong?
« on: September 06, 2011, 12:41:16 pm »
I had a friend ask me why I keep buying my Kindle books off of Amazon the other day, I was like where should I buy them at? He then went on to show me several sites where I can download just about any book I want for free and it is either already formatted for my Kindle or how to make it to work with my kindle. IDK I looked at the sites and it was tempting but somehow feels WRONG for me to do that! Authors need to make a living too! Even older books tho I just can't bring myself to do it... do any of you download books this way or do you always get your books from Amazon?

The Book Corner / Does this bother you in Series?
« on: September 06, 2011, 09:23:32 am »
Maybe I am the only one but I get annoyed when in Series I have to read the same descriptions over and over (like what the main characters house and car look like) or having the author tell me again every book who this person is and this person! I mean I get it in the first book but when I am 7 in I am like yeah ok I KNOW THIS already and if you don't go read the first book! Am I the only one who gets annoyed by this?

Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting (Kindle) / Book Pages

What does a book have to have to have the pages listed instead of locations? I am reading the Dresden files and find it so annoying that some of the books have the actual pages and some don't! Book 6 had the page numbers but 7 does not for example. I would think the newer books would have them at least!? Is there any way to request a book to get the pages added or to add them myself?
