Not Quite Kindle / Smiley's and More!
« on: September 27, 2009, 04:32:55 pm »
Thank you.  I have never taken the time to figure out how to use those adorable laughy thingys.

When I want a smiley for a particular post, I just go to Google and type LOL SMILEY or something descriptive like that, then click on IMAGE when you get to the results page. If you want only small smiley's like the one's that are available by default here on the board, then click on + SHOW OPTIONS and choose ICON from the sizes section. Here's a sample search using LOL SMILEY.

Then when you find the smiley you like, just click on it, then click on VIEW FULL SIZE IMAGE and save the URL to use here as you would with any other picture using the [ img ] tags.

The KBoards Photo Gallery / My Custom Author's Autographs Screensaver
« on: September 26, 2009, 08:31:23 pm »

I got the idea from the autographed Kindle I posted about a few weeks ago. So I used some of my favorite author's autographs that I found on the web to create a screensaver.

Mine includes the following autographs:

  • W.E.B. Griffin
  • Tom Clancy
  • Lee Child
  • Thomas Harris
  • Barry Eisler
  • Stephen Hunter
  • Robert Crais
  • Stephen King
  • Dean Koontz
  • T. Jefferson Parker
  • Michael Crichton
  • Joseph Wambaugh
  • Steve Martini
  • Joseph Heller
  • Robert Ludlum
  • Jeffrey Archer
  • Stephen Coonts
  • Clive Cussler
  • Nelson DeMille
  • John LeCarre
  • James Patterson

I'd be happy to create one for anyone who'd like one. If you'd like one, just post a list of the authors you want me to include. I have about 100 authors already in Photoshop ready to go, but I can probably find almost anyone. I'd also be happy to include any of the authors on the board here who'd like to scan their autograph in and post it.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Megan Fox loves her Kindle...
« on: September 26, 2009, 08:18:50 pm »

Thursday night in an awkward yet strangely charming interview with Jimmy Fallon, perennial headline-maker and tonight’s SNL headliner Megan Fox spoke of being afraid of the dark, shoplifting Mary Kate & Ashley cosmetics from Wal-Mart in her youth, and how much she loves her Kindle and iPhone game Sally’s Spa.

The Trapper-Kindle

Suggestions, Comments / Suggestion that may not be possible (or even wanted)
« on: September 15, 2009, 04:57:16 am »
First of all, let me start by saying this is the nicest, most friendly community I have had the pleasure of joining in all my time on the internet. That said, I know I may be in the minority here, but I really don't like having Madeleine L'engle or other female author names stuck on my profile. Which leads to the following suggestion...

Is there any way to have the Celebrity Author status names be tied to the gender of the user? So, in other words, on my profile I selected MALE as my gender, is there any way to have all of the author names on my profile be male as well? Or failing that, an option for each user to just turn off the author names altogether?

Kathryn Cates Moore: Dealing with the Kindle conundrum

Good review taking on those who claim true book lovers won't switch to e-books.

I found this through a blog post that came up on my Google "Kindle" daily alert message.

Pretty cool!  8)

Kindle Accessories / New M-Edge Halsea "Beach Chic" covers available
« on: September 09, 2009, 05:51:18 am »
Just noticed on Twitter a press release for some new patterns available for M-Edge Kindle covers... $60 (on sale) seems a little steep to me, and for my tastes at least, these aren't that great looking. What do you all think?

Let's Talk Kindle! / Kindle New Releases?
« on: September 09, 2009, 02:07:22 am »
Is there any page on Amazon that lists EVERY new Kindle book each week? I found THIS PAGE but it only lists about 25 books and that includes several duplicates for some reason. Is there any type of comprehensive listing of everything released for the Kindle each week?

The KBoards Photo Gallery / My USC Skin from Skinit
« on: August 24, 2009, 05:56:25 pm »
This skin is from I'm not overly thrilled with the way it fit, mainly on the front, top corners. It also feels very rough on the edges and I think it's going to peel eventually with the constant handling of my Kindle just through normal use.

Sorry for the crappy cellphone camera pics!  :(

Introductions & Welcomes / Hello from LA...
« on: August 24, 2009, 03:29:39 am »

I've been lurking here for a week or two waiting for my Kindle to arrive... glad to be part of such an obviously passionate community of readers. Not sure if I fit the demographic here, if there even is one. I'm an avid reader of thrillers, mysteries, war novels, spycraft, a little adventure every once in awhile.

I'm a 911 dispatcher (hence the username) and I work graveyards, so I have lots of time to read between calls or when the radio is slow. Several of my co-workers are Kindle owners, I think there are about 5 or 6 besides mine. I'm also a father of six, so I don't get a whole lot of reading done at home!!!  ;)

Look forward to learning more about my Kindle and contributing where I can. In that vein, I have already posted over on Mobileread some custom screensaver backgrounds I made for my K2. I can post them here as well, but not sure that there'd be much interest. Let me know!
