I don't know if this is quite right. 17 lights? Has anyone thought that they might need a car battery to keep it running...and fwiw I use all my kindles including a plain Jane k5 that is no lights and just buttons...I would like them to get back to basics and I do hope the paperwhite will always be the 119 value/bang for the buck reader it is...

no I would not , its battery sucks and is not as bright as my paperwhite. To be honest I read on my paperwhite and FWIW the last 2 releases both Oasis' have new features and needs work. I'm tired of being a test person for beta releases...disgusted with Amazon

Thank you for the kind words! I did end up calling them last night. The first rep that I spoke with wanted me to restart the Kindle and then monitor the battery life for 24 to 48 hours. I asked to talk to tech support and that rep quickly offered a replacement. It should arrive on Sunday. Fingers crossed that it goes better than this one.

good going, mine comes today , lets hope we both end up with a good one   :D

Wow, that's disappointing but I'm glad that you're getting a replacement! My mom's new Kindle Oasis is having battery trouble too. She charged it maybe a day and half ago and the battery is already few low. It definitely doesn't seem normal. She does keep the light brightness higher but she keeps the wifi off. I've been dreading calling support because it's just not a fun experience. This doesn't make me look forward to it anymore. I'm sorry that it was a pain but it's good that you've got a replacement coming!

don't be afraid to call , just insist on a replacement, I tried all the usual things wiping it clean and just put the one book on but it started to again drain too fast. They took your mom's $ make sure its right. I cannot accept anything less for any please don't take my situation wrong. You have to be your own best advocate...

I have had battery issues since I got it but let it run its course and had to recharge on maybe 15 hours of reading maybe and I run it at 13 in airplane mode and no books indexing...IMO it should be better as my Oasis 1 did better. I only kept my voyage as I was not a big fan of the charging cover and traded in the oasis 1 and my paperwhite 3...Well I now know what Atunah went through with CS and I did the phone call and I had worked phones in lending for better than 40 years but the folks that man those phones just don't use their ears. Very frustrated right now and I do have a replacement coming as I stuck to my guns and I had to get a bit heavy handed and this is suppose to be for pleasure I'm not suppose to get my BP up...sorry for the rant, I like  this reader just would like to get one

I have had oasis 2 since tuesday and I love the size and the ease of reading with the extra size. I would add while I had it was never a big fan of the 1st one and this one is an improvement. I'm waiting for the cover (today delivery) but I have actually gotten comfortable with reading it as is with an odd across the bottom hold on one hand. My concern at present is the battery and it was a concern that I was never comfortable with Oasis seems as it leaks a little battery on screen saver. Not a lot but 1% here and there add up. I'm retired but I read in short bursts 30 min here, 15 there and 30 or better at bed time...the total time per the claims is about 20-25 hours and your mileage may vary. I think this is a great buy and I'm sure they (hopefully) will address the battery issue and I checked all the books I downloaded and none are indexing...I read at 13 or 14 lighting depending on the tiredness of my eyes and I'll add I have a dry eye condition. Good reader overall and I'm enjoying it , for me the size is what I like...

back from Best Buy and I have set it up a little and it looks great, charging a couple pages initially am blown away at the ease of reading and adjusting the fonts works well on 7", I like the larger size...I'll report more when I finish my chores and before my grand daughter show up...OH for you that have ordered at best buy and you get a still processing status, just go to the store and ask for it , they are short staffed and have them but the left hand hasn't told the right hand whats in or not, so ask...

I ordered mine from Amazon a little late with a November 14 delivery date. Today I was perusing the mobile reads forum and learned that Best Buy has the new Oasis available for in store pickup tomorrow! I just bumped my date up by ordering from there! Woohoo!

yes I did this as well, hope I get to pick it up before my grand daughter comes over @ 12 or we'll have to take a ride . I'm kind of excited , like xmas...

new does not always mean better...

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: New 2017 Model?
« on: April 27, 2017, 04:14:50 am »
in all honesty , I consider the Oasis to be a bust. Yes nice screen but the battery just never delivered for me. I would hope 'if' something is made to improve on the Voyage which I mainly use. Its small same nice screen and more compact. I would like the 'buttons' improved but if I had to live with that , it would be fine with me. However Amazon does have a way of over kill. I would hope they would just make some minor improvements...

My Oasis will (hopefully!) not be my last Kindle, but this rumor, if it is real, will not be my next Kindle. Waterproofing is a nice tonhave feature, and in a rare case, could be a lifesaver, but I haven't needed it in about seven and a half years of Kindling. I'll stick to my Oasis, thanks!

But good for those who want to read in the bathtub, if this happens!

I would love to read in the shower :)

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Percentage of book read
« on: April 24, 2017, 12:24:47 pm »
Does it bother anyone else that the percent of a book read doesn't accurately measure the book itself, but includes preview of new books, and comments/advertising from the author?  This bothers me greatly.  Often it will say, for example, that the book is 92% finished.  I figure, OK too much for me to continue reading tonight.  I pick it up next time and find there is only about 10 minutes left in the book.  To my way of thinking, the figure should reflect the actual book only.

totally agree but it depends on the book and how wrapped up I am in it...

no I left the cover on, battery is just not there on this device...

Let's Talk Kindle! / overall Oasis -fails
« on: December 30, 2016, 01:33:11 pm »
I've tried multiple oasis' and none have met the given expectations of the overblown hype of the advertising or the hype. I have had good screens for the most part but very iffy battery use so it usually goes back. I will say in defense of those that love it that I may be expecting too much but for the money I expect a bit more than reading 2.5 books on it (avg length 400 pages) before it wants to be charged so it went back and today sent the 4th one I tried and to be honest I wanted it too work. I think for amazon this should not be a grap shoot but to be honest my pw3 does the job at a more reasonable price and I do have a nice voyage , shame but I would not be surprised that oasis 2 comes out spring and the battery is addressed as the screen...sorry to those I know that disagree and just my 2 cents...

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Kindle Voyage - Blue vs. Yellow Light
« on: July 19, 2016, 05:22:32 am »
this was known for tablets but because kindle were 'front' lit this wasn't to be an issue so in reality this is not the case? and it doesn't matter if you read off a tablet or e ink sorta makes me sorry I ever got involved with the lighted kindles always thought they had darker text...I have macular degeneration so I'm concerned for my eye health...

Let's Talk Kindle! / new basic kindle generation 8
« on: July 07, 2016, 02:50:41 pm »
got it today and its great IMHO but I like basic readers. Is about the size of the voyage and about the same size. Text is nice and dark and has all the extras of the higher priced readers but no lights which sometime I prefer. The case that I got and is offered by Amazon is top notch though it would of been nice to have a navy blue cover it is not a biggie as black works just as well...had a small problem getting the ads off but customer service helped and in fact didn't charge me...I usually read a couple books and just started a reread of a favorite book...Robert B Parker and his Spenser series Rough Weather...

I received my Amazon credit (and used it already), now I've received an email from Apple telling me I have a credit as well. I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know where to look on iBooks or iTunes?

I actually got a check from apple as I bought a few on my ipad...

no email just had a 300 dollar credit there was called amazon all I was told it was a gift card...

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: THE DOTS ARE BACK - 5.8.1
« on: June 15, 2016, 05:27:00 am »
I downloaded the update last night and put on the Oasis and no issues, the front page shows the covers and % read and the dots show up in my library list section...

well called again and I was told to return it and reorder so its in the UPS system for return and I'm sorry I could not secure a replacement within the 30days I have no idea why they advertise it when you can't get that. So the Oasis turns into a crap shoot of order and hope you get a good one...this is not the way Amazon use to be and with the prices of e books going up makes you wonder if this is the same Amazon that started in the late 90's and I'm tired of the customer service folks being from countries that say my name wrong, kind of insulting....
