its just my opinion and not saying anything about what is seen or not seen but e ink itself has never been perfect, its just easier on the eyes than say a ipad for reading and again I say that as a generality. But on any given PW2 screen you get your going to find there will be something that is not perfect. The device is revolutionary in and of itself. It works for some. But lets be honest. Its a reader , try reading on it not starring at the screen looking for imperfections. Again I'm not saying WilliamG doesn't see what he sees but to invert the picture the white letters on black is a bit of a stretch. Trust me, I'm a nit picker and I have always said if you want to see something negative about something yes you will find it. I would say you have 30 days to return it why not use it as a reader with words on a page and read. If its a good book I think you may find that you will see the words not the imperfections and to anyone I may have insulted I am sorry this was not my intent. This is just my 2 cents...

I don't have the option to see the pages? I have 5 books on all indexed and none give me the option of pages...anyone else have this...

well initial thought is a very nice upgrade, the screen is whiter and no issues and the print is slightly blacker, I would say its a cleaner look than PW1 . I have only played a little with the software adds but everything looks very good and well done...

I don't see amazon doing more e ink wise, they are headed to tablets, such as the unannounced 10" that will be released in october november, I do think they will upgrade the Fire HD & Fire HD 8.9 but it is not cost worthy to keep the the eink going...

its just my take on the PW topic but no 2 people see the same thing the same way & there does seems some folks upset about others not seeing what they do. The PW I got and use looks fine to me but to my wife it looks blueish on the side...my point is preception and opinions... everyone sees color hues differently & everyone has an opinion on others preception & just don't get angry about it everyone is intitled to an opinion, its just that you see what you see either it works or it doesn't an amazon is trying to please you so if you like the product just stick to it till you get satisfied...

it should of never gotten in a position to be broke , that's my 'old' ways, in other words get it right the 1st time. Amazon IMO was a good company, they have gotten too big , now things like this that would of never of happened are so common place that to fix it is ok.  No. its not ok to take $ out of my account & make me wait 5 days to get it back, What if I needed that $ for medications? in a couple years I will be retired I may not be in a position to wait. And sorry I don't mean to insult you if your younger but just look at it as what it is people taking $ without real cause...trust me if it was you it would be different...

well thanks to all for your input and it was insightful to see the responses. To the post on why i mention my age it is because it helps relate where I am in my life as in values. I'm old school in other words. In this modern-need it yesterday , text as we drive , holler at the car in front of you because you're late for work, I was raised & married in a easier time. When your word meant something. When 15,000 bucks a year was an ok salary. Am I old? , not a chance I have been into computers since 89, got a cell phone in the min 90's so I am modern. MY point is I guess Amazon asked me to trust them with what is my debit card # & yes I agreed to their terms, In hand I have lived by my end & take my responsabilites to get their goods back to them in just about the same condition I got it, I'm pretty careful that way. So they have shown that they disrespect me by charging me for goods that I no longer have. That is unacceptable IMO, sorry computer error isn't in the computer its the people who input the data ...other words garbage in garbage out. Somewhere on not one but 2 calls, someone needed to check the box  or remove the error that sent this unneeded charge to its final destination.Yes I'll get my money back but it won't come back in the same manner it got taken out, it'll be next week & I'm not happy. For those of you that think I'm unreasonable that's fine.  For those that like to bash, have at it...

thanks & its fixed now but bottom line is computer error or not I called not once but twice to confirm receipt of amazon's property & got the original credit, it should of never gotten this far if someone I talked to made sure it was input correctly into the computer. Trust me I work at a bank I get no do overs for when people are questioning their funds as I am the guy that gets those 'supervisor' calls & yes I'm the guy who writes someone up when promises are not met at the bank. I'm 60 and I'm sorry doesn't cut it when you dealing with money. I have considered just giving up e books & buying hardbacks , my wife who is the boss here at home :) doesn't like to see this & I have to answer to her here, so I have to take stock before I continue with amazon...just my 2 cents & 10 minutes of a effort from somewhere on one of those calls could prevent this...

well this is an area that use to be the icing on the cake but over the past year & IMO due to overseas handling of calls their service has dropped significantly.I have always up to know usually have an easy time of it except for occasional minor issues. However today maybe the day Amazon loses my business. I bought the PW and received one of the 1st shipments. I after a week decided it needed to go back and as is my usual I tracked to may sure it was received by Amazon and yes I got my credit. Well ten days ago I got a warning e mail that I had not sent it back and soon I would be charged for the PW...So I called and they verified that indeed that e-mail was a mistake so ignore. Well today I got an e-mail from Amazon & surprise they charged me anyway. I have to say this is unacceptable. Now before all you " I always get great service" pop up to tell me I'm wrong & should just ignore this as a minor goof, sorry can't ignore this. This is too much for this old guy who hands customer calls at a bank all day. Just a heads up to others to make sure to follow up your returns...hope everyone has a nice holiday , I will stay away from their site for the time being and see how I feel another day...

been there as I have 4 tablets of varying sizes & 4 e ink devices as I don't stay with one longer than a day or two I have had that pop up but easy enough to remove one to get it on the one I want, I do plan on gifting a couple readers & my wife is going to get the Galaxy Tab 2 real soon...

OK, I have been called a "luddite" many times by my technology-loving friends.  I tend to be a simple guy.  Yes, the Fire and Paperwhite are kind of cool, but I just want my e-reader to show me books and then allow me to read them.  Yes, I am the guy who the sales person at the cell phone store who shows me a phone that flashes and beeps and shoots lasers and cooks breakfast for my neighborhood and then asks, "Yeah, but can I make calls with it?"

Anyway, that being said, although there are all of these new Kindles - I am in love with the simple $69 version with Special Offers.  I have not yet bought it, but I have seen them in stores and I love how it's small and light - I can easily hold it in one hand.  The ads are very unobtrusive in my opinion.  Even the lack of keyboard doesn't bug me. 

I still have a K3 with keyboard, but I have been very tempted to get the new $69 Kindle as a kind of back up (I think I am seeing cracks forming in the corners of my screen on my current Kindle, but I am living in denial).

Anyway, I see all of this breathless discussion of PW and the Touch and Fire was so intense it got its own room...  But is anyone else just happy with a nice simple reader? 

yes I like the k5 & I have a iphone and I ipad  but I still like the KISS method overall & IMO things are getting out of hand with technology, yes its nice but I don't always need it...

my new PW develped a pinkish hue and battery problem and its going back this afternoon to Best Buy after work. I'm sort of disappointed in the lack of quality control. You know Apple makes their devices in China as well why is it Amazon has such problems but most Apple issues are software. In retrospect if this was a software issue you could actually go with that till you got a fix but this is hardware & IMO it would be best for version 2. I'm real disappointed that they tried to do a compasitive touch & lighting in this model, maybe best to perfect the touch portion before moving onto lighting & I still have my k5 to read...
