Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: The defective PaperWhite thread
« on: October 07, 2012, 12:16:54 pm »
I returned mine, I have never gotten comfortable with the shadows at the bottom, called for a replacement & they went into 4 week wait, I said forget it , I have other readers. Sad that amazon did do more to make this is a better product, like they say wonderful with full light use the light at night one light throws a shadow over the bottom...

13 in a dark/dim lighting, 10 in a bright setting...

Mooshie, if I pay the $20 to opt out of the SO, do you think that the magnetic cover will activate the on/sleep function? If the swiping motion is very responsive, it may be ok. I'm spoiled by my iPad's Smart Cover, though, and was looking forward to the same functionality on my PW.

I opted out and yes when you open the cover it goes to the book after a micro second of the regular screen saver, I really like the on off feature...

Are you kidding me?  My kindle arrives and my husband declares it dinner time!  UGH!

hand him a microwave dinner , he'll survive , my wife works lots of OT I don't starve... ;)

Getting queasy and about to launch into full-blown anxiety's not here yet and I have to get to work by 7.  :P

don't get those , I suffer from those not good, take deep breaths & repeat "it will be here" many times...good luck...

only read about 15 minutes but eyestrain i would not worry about the light is done right...

Just got a text that it's on the vehicle and scheduled for today's delivery.

i got that than it showed up 20 minutes later, hope you get it before noon...

hang in there it'll show, I want to leave now, I swear I hear my cat coughing up a hair ball all the way here ;) I need to go...

my neighbor called said she just brought it in for me , hurray!!!! & it was delivered by Lasership!!!! I have to suffer through the rest of the day before I get home... but at least I know its there...

The UPS truck just pulled up in front of my house. Now, I knew that my kindle wasn't supposed to be on the truck -- coming by a different carrier altogether -- but it didn't keep my heart from beating a little faster.  But then he started pulling out a big box so, again, I knew it wasn't my kindle.  And yet. I hoped.  :(  Neighbors across the street got something delivered.  Probably for their new baby. Which is an actual baby, not a Kindle. :D

Sigh!  I need help. ;D

talk about not fair I asked for text when it was delivered & have my iphone sitting here & the chime rings and I'm think OMG its at home but no just the text telling me it is out for delivery but I knew that at 7am :(

in Maryland and lasership shows out for Delivery, cross my fingers it end up at the right house ;)

I have Lasership delivering mine & I will try to stay positive, that tomorrow at 5 when I hit home it'll be at my front my wife reminds me I can't stress it affects my health & I'm just starting to feel better, heaven knows my boss does enough as it is to get me worked up as he's 20 years younger and I think we have a generation gap...I need to retire...sorry to get wordy...

cover & PW has shipping soon...

i don't see losing exposure in these stores a negative, amazon makes it easy to buy and try any product, kindle especially on a 30day with a no hastle return policy, they will do well no matter. As I have gotten older & with prime I buy most of my purchases from them & rarely have an issue. Walmart & Target are making the mistake while they maynbe cutting out a competitor so  to speak they also lose potential foot traffic & secondary sales they would of brought...

you can rationalize all you want but it doesn't matter everyone including amazon is in business to make money that's America prices usually go up see demand supply does not apply here and actually my wife is worse, she thinks every corporation in business is just interested in greed...

On the Touch, you don't have to reach way over to the right side to tap or swipe to turn to the next page.  It has touch zones:

In the picture above, the narrow column on the left is the "previous page" tap zone. It's about 1/2 an inch wide.  A tap anywhere to the right of that (except in the top zone) moves to the next page.  I can hold the book with my left hand and reach the "next page" tap zone.

Until we learn otherwise, I would expect the zones on the Paperwhite to be similar.

(The band across the top accesses the in-book menu bars, and the little square in the upper right sets a bookmark.)

thanks for the graphic I was just wondering what it would look like & there your post just popped up thanks again...!
