« on: January 01, 2019, 04:20:22 am »
Post your found bargain* books here.

(Link to the 2018 thread:,259501.0.html)

This thread is for all to post their Bargain book finds, no self-promotion please**.  Please do not link through other sites -- use KBoards affiliate or generic Amazon links.

We generally try to keep this thread on topic with book posts only, off-topic posts will be "pruned"!  This helps people who check the thread whenever they see the "new post" indicator or who have the thread set up for "notify."  Thanks for your consideration!

If you have a book of your own to promote, you may start a thread all your own in the Book Bazaar to promote your book, to post news and to talk to your fans!  Please do not post here or ask someone to do so on your behalf.  You may post in the bargain book threads open to authors, found here:

(These links may also be found in the Book Bazaar Threadipedia & FAQ sticky thread.)  Of course, you may also list the book in your Avatar and signature.  Thanks!

Tip:  typing the title of the book in the post as well as adding the image will help people searching for the book!

Comes in other colors, too . . . only $12; earliest delivery next week. I'm going to give the Navy blue one a try.

Let's Talk Kindle! / PW4 Features
« on: November 07, 2018, 12:48:54 pm »
These are in no particular order, just things I'm noticing as I set up.

1.  When it came to set the time, there was a notation that the device would get the time from the local wifi network. So that's new -- and something folks have asked for, though it's fairly minor. That said, mine was on pacific time when it arrived . . . . I'll leave it alone and see if it fixes itself.

2.  While I was running through the various settings menus, I noticed the 'update your kindle' option was not grayed out. So I tapped it and it's updating. It came with -- update finished. It's For reference, my Voyage is

3.  It arrived about half charged . . . and came with a wire. I have so many of them now! The box is slimmer than the last few kindles I've bought; Nothing in the way of documentation except a little card that said 'turn it on and do what it says'. :D

4. Device Options menu: no real difference -- still waiting for the time to update. Going to advanced options, there's a setting on the new PW called Power Saver. I suspect it acts similarly to the Oasis where it goes to deep sleep when not used for a while, which means it takes a bit longer when first waking up.

5. There's a 'storage management' that will let you quickly remove content. You can also automatically archive (i.e. remove from device) things that you haven't looked at in a set period of time. Actually, this feature has been on other devices, but it's not been talked about much.

6. Reading Options/Highlights & About This Book: There is no option to toggle public notes on or off. The popular highlights "feature" is still there . . I've turned it off. (I think this menu changed after the update, but I can't be sure; I didn't look at it long.)

7. There's an accessibility setting that lets you turn on the VoiceView Screen Reader and allows you to set the page to white text on black.

That's what I've discovered so far . . . off to play a bit more . . . At first blush, it's not too different from the Voyage in terms of usability. I do find my self trying to press the 'buttons' that, of course, aren't there. The lighting seems about the same. It's quite light. I will be looking for a suitable cover -- I don't want anything bulky at all.

No, no shipping notice yet, but I did get an email this morning inviting me to take advantage of the free KU offer. It's 3 6 months free; must sign up by the end of next January.

I had KU for a while and wasn't thrilled -- had a hard time, frankly, finding books that were the quality I expect. But maybe I'll give it another shot. I've got 6 library books out right now, though, that I have to finish in the next 3 weeks or so -- so I'll probably wait a bit.

The Book Corner / November 2018 First Reades from Amazon

Amazon First Reads

Another month, 6 more choices.

Again, there's not a lot that appeals. Most look rather dark. Or else meant to be meaningful. Then I saw the one labeled "Geek Fiction" which intrigued:

Actually, it looks like a mystery. :) A cozy-ish mystery. :D With maybe some humor to boot! ;D

Only one review, but it gels with my impression from the blurb so I clicked!

New month, new list.

Amazon First Reads

One is called 'gothic suspense' which appeals to me -- if that's what it really is. Haven't had a chance to browse thoroughly, but wanted to get the thread started for those who didn't get a reminder email already. :)
