Posted this elsewhere, but thought I'd share in a thread of it's own.

The Arlington County, VA library is doing a Big Book Read on line book club this summer -- the theme is #ohboytolstoy and the book is the P-V translation of War and Peace:

I've decided to participate as I can. There will be chats on FB Sunday evenings, a weekly wrap up podcast, and tweeting is encouraged. At the end of the summer the central library will host a viewing of one of the film versions.

I do think I've read this before, but probably an inferior translation, and I was in high school so likely missed A LOT! Not to mention what I've forgotten. :)

As far as I know, there is no requirement that you LIVE in Arlington to participate. You are supposed to register and there is a FB group to join for chats -- I'm not even sure if they'll be checking library registration. The FB group is a 'closed' group so I'm waiting to be officially "in". Reading doesn't start until June 1 or 2 so, not a big deal.

Absolutely none of these appeal to me in the slightest. I really wish they'd find just a good, decent mystery. >:( I've gone off 'thrillers' and 'suspense' -- they are often way too graphic and the others just aren't my thing.

Choices for April 2018 . . . . . the historical mystery set near the end of the war in Dresden, Germany looks good -- hope the translation is good!

Turns out he's a big kindle fan . . . though he doesn't have much else to do with tech/social media. Around the 5:15 mark Stephen asks "What's your relationship with technology?" as a follow on to their bit where he's giving directions a la a GPS voice.

Not a Joke -- it's been started by his son Duncan as a way to honor his dad and will feature some of David's favorite books. First up: 1985 novel Hawksmoor by Peter Ackroyd.

Sadly, not available on kindle and only via Amazon from third party sellers: Hawksmoor - Penguin Decades edition

That might change, of course . . . .
