I went with The Missing Sister. No idea when I'll get to reading it though .... lots of things coming available at the library and a couple of pre-orders will drop soon.

I haven't started yet -- got to the top of the queue on a bunch of library books so reading them first.

But I love having something on my kindle that I KNOW I'll enjoy. :)

I just love waking up to a new book on my kindle that I KNOW I will enjoy. :)

I was going to suggest a hard reset -- glad it worked for you!

My PW has it .... I think it's the latest generation -- the one with the flush screen. I've noticed not change in operation or functions so far.

Yeah, mine came automatically to a couple of my devices. Weird that it's not available to install manually, though.

FWIW .... when I saw this post this morning -- tacked on to an 8 year old thread -- I figured it was trolling with en eye to eventually putting some spammy link in the post .... BUT, I also felt like it was fair to rebut the poster's contentions. And we have. :D

Go to Manage Your Content and Devices and click the devices tab. Click the button with 3 dots and it'll tell you your kindle email address.

In my experience, it doesn't change when you remove and re-register the same device.

Works the same for my apps on my phone and tablet. Don't have kindle for PC, though, so not sure if it's different.

5 kindles active on my account -- ranging from 2 to 6 years old. And the older kindles were still working fine when I traded them in or passed them on to others.

See this post: from 8 years ago when this thread was first started:,109654.msg1649305.html#msg1649305

Between then and the ones I have now, 2 did 'fail' but only because they were stepped on or dropped. (It wasn't me! My brother is a bit touch on his electronics and they were ones in his possession. :) )

I use a clorox brand wipe on my kindle, tablet, and phone with no ill effects.

The Book Corner / Re: Amazon credit toward a Wish List title

I wonder if this is just a US thing. I've been reading Kindle books in the UK for about 10+ years now and I've never once had this happen to me.  :(

Could be. It's only been once or twice. I sort of thought it might have happened because I'd been in a long stretch of library borrowing and hadn't actually PAID for a book -- not even a cheap one -- for quite some time.

I've gotten an email like that once or twice ... and the good thing I discovered is that you don't necessarily have to buy THAT book. When I got it I found I'd already borrowed it from the library and read it and simply neglected to take it off the wish list. But I looked at another book on my wish list and saw that the credit was being applied. So: Yay! :D

My PW (latest version) is at 5.12.4. No idea when it updated itself. "What's new" says the same thing as crebel quoted. Can't speak to the battery discharge -- haven't paid close enough attention.

Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting (Kindle) / Re: Default Device
« on: March 07, 2020, 03:38:46 am »
Mines been staying pretty consistent the last few months. But, now that I've said that it'll probably randomly get unstuck again. :) For a while it did seem like it wouldn't stay stuck and just always went back to the first device listed.

Come to think of it, I suspect it's stayed stuck because the current 'default' is the first kindle named alphabetically. On the devices management page there's nothing designated as 'default' though I am certain I have previously designated a different device. I guess I've just decided to let it be and not bother with changing it. The one it's going to now is my secondary device, which is fine. Whenever I send anything (usually library books) I just send to the primary immediately after.

Based on that, my suggestion would be to rename the primary so it's alphabetically first. :)

I can suffer through bad formatting (within reason) ;D  as long as the story is interesting.

The situation was that there were no indents for paragraphs or spaces between. So it was like it was just one huge run on .... though every now and again there'd be space at the end of a line. It was not worth trying to figure out, for me.

They mystery and the thriller both have some promise for me. Reviews so far are decent .....

(And crebel I'm with you on the St. Marys series -- I've never read that one 'cause the formatting was awful and won't continue. Probably not even if they fix it.)

Wow ... no, I have not seen that. And I don't already have it. Well, I do now, 'cause I just picked it up for a buck. I'll give it a try.

Thank, Linda .... I kept meaning to get to it but, having just gotten back from a 2 week trip, i had other more important things to get done around the house. :)

As far as I am aware you must plug it in to charge it. If the port is damaged, you may be out of luck. But you could contact Amazon -- perhaps they'll give you something on a trade in for a new device.
