Yes, Doglover. Now that I've self-published one book, I feel more confident that I'm capable.

It appears to me that Lulu delays release of novels to the marketplace to increase sales on its own site. It pays well in terms of royalties, but has a small percentage of the marketplace. The product is excellent, beautiful. I set the price, so I don't understand what you complained about in that respect. Postage?

Here's today's that I've been using:

I self-published the paperback on Lulu. It could be ordered now, but there is still a diminishing bias against self-published books. I remember when they were regarded as mere vanity and dismissed altogether. Would you wait a few weeks for Lulu to post on Amazon, etc., or would you go ahead and promote using the Lulu link?

Writers' Cafe / Re: Royalties: Does This Look Correct?

Thank. This is the first time I've self-published. I checked out Create Space a little, but it scared me off with a statement to the effect that folks get frustrated and give up their first time (but it is easy once you get the hang of it). I'll check out IngramSpark (never heard of it).

Lulu Paperback Sold on Amazon, B&N, or Ingram:

Price    $14.95
Base Price:    -$5.50
Distribution Fees    -$7.47
Lulu Share    -$0.40
You Make    $1.58

If sold directly by Lulu my royalties increase to over $7. Man, $1.58 is not very much. Is this comparable to other options?

Writers' Cafe / Re: Awesome Indies Relaunch
« on: June 11, 2018, 06:36:39 am »
I had to send a copy of the review and the Gold Medal that I had received. It helped, prob., because the review had been posted on Amazon and I also still had the original link to it on the Awesome Indies site. I don't know if it would help sales, but that review sure stroked my ego.

The Administrator of Awesome Indies granted permission for that Gold Medal review to be reprinted on another site. In two or three weeks, the review will be restored on the new Awesome Indies site. If you would like to check it out now, here is the link:

“..a hillbilly version of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy..serious subjects like poverty, ignorance, abuse..tongue-in-cheek humor without trivializing..tucked between the folds of humor are some profound observations on human nature and modern society that you have to read to appreciate..most sci-fi fans will thoroughly enjoy.” @awesome_indies Gold Medal Available for All eReaders: Proceeds help abused children. #ASMSG

Writers' Cafe / Awesome Indies Relaunch
« on: June 10, 2018, 09:19:50 am »
Awesome Indies was one of the most prominent book review sites on the internet. It's organizational structure was solid -- would not permit pre or post review contact between the publisher or author and the reviewer. The reviews were excellent, comprehensive and performed by reviewers of the utmost credibility and experience. A Gold, Silver, or Bronze Medal from Awesome Indies was a mark of excellence.

After the tragic death of Mr. Stinas, Phillip Catshill was appointed as Administrator. He is rebuilding the site. If one of your books was reviewed by Awesome Indies and you would like for it to be restored on the new site, you can contact him at: [email protected] . I did and Mr. Catshill replied that the review should be back up in two or three weeks.

“..I used to cry a lot about Faith, even before her daddy murdered her..” Lacy Dawn Meets Lisa the Robot Girl:  @Virgilante 2018 Edition just released:  Proceeds help abused kids. In the U.S., 5 die daily from child abuse or neglect!

New Guest Post on The Ardent Reader: “Self-Serving Altruism” @ejhcurtis 2018 Edition just released #sciencefiction #ASMSG 50% of proceeds donated to help abused children.

D2D said that mine was published on Tolino, but the link didn't work and it didn't come up when I searched. ???

Writers' Cafe / Best Online Bookstores?

Based on a recommendation from this board, I went with Draft2Digital for the 2018 republication of my novel. The ebook version is now live on Amazon, Kobo, Apple, and Barnes & Noble. Are their any really good online bookstores that I could ask D2D to also include? Thanks

I've sure learned a lot. To those who helped: THANKS!

"..unique plot, story and characters..the journey they each have to go to get out of the dark is fantastic.." @EmilyAnnWalsh09 #ASMSG #sciencefiction Check it out: Proceeds help abused children. Nominated for an Author Academy Award.

Thanks. It worked.

I got this error a dozen times and decided to ask for help. Thanks

Your session timed out while posting. Please go back and try again.

On your original post you said that it was a PDF file. Which is it? PDF or JPG?

A JPG file embedded in your PDF file won't work.

If your file is indeed JPG, you might need to convert the color profile to RGB. There are a lot of online CMYK to RGB converters on the internet.

Thank you for telling me about GIMP. It worked!

Sorry, it is a .jpg.

It is a .jpg.

I'm filling out the D2D form and got an error message when uploading the cover: "Image cannot be CMYC color profile. Please use RGB instead." What does that mean? It's a .pdf file. Thanks

Rarity from the Hollow was nominated, vetted, and accepted into the competition for the Author Academy Awards. Please consider voting for it on page 11, Science Fiction Books. Scroll down from the top of the main page to a big rectangle that has Nonfiction Books on top. There’s an arrow on the right. Click it ten times to get to SF Books and click on the book cover (attached).  It’s free and easy. Proceeds help abused children.

Writers' Cafe / Awesome Indies Goes Under
« on: May 03, 2018, 06:50:34 am »
"Following the tragic death of the Awesome Indies Coordinator, Brian Sfinas, on 1st February 2018, Awesome Indies is temporarily closed for new submissions.

As a new volunteer, I am currently developing a new website and hope to relaunch Awesome Indies as Awesome Indies Books in the summer of 2018.

The page I’m working on at the moment is called “Bookshelf” and this will include a catalogue of previous approved books and seals, together with links. A few problems with layout and links, but I’m getting there!"

This was one of the most prominent book review sites on the internet. It's organizational structure was solid -- would not permit pre or post review contact between the publisher or author and the reviewer. The reviews were excellent, comprehensive and performed by reviewers of the utmost credibility and experience. This is very sad, both for the family and friends of Mr. Stinas, and for the world of books.

Edited. Drop me a PM if you have any questions. - Becca

Amazing Stories Magazine opened to submissions today. Here's its review of Rarity from the Hollow:

“Amusing at times, shocking at others, a touching and somehow wonderful SFF read.” -- Amazing Stories Magazine:  Purchase:  Proceeds help maltreated children (75% donated). #sciencefiction #ASMSG
