Kindle Accessories / Re: Oberon covers for Kindle 2
« on: February 17, 2009, 10:13:54 am »
I have a Sony, and it has two memory card slots, I keep some public domain on it. but mostly I don't. I just keep it on my computer (like I do my kindle ones that the convert and email back to me.)  Just never got in the habit of the memory cards. I guess because I loose them  :-[ .  The Sony has two features I really wish the Kinle would have, one is folders, but I use the search to get around that, and the other is the screen lock feature.  But, I love my Kindle, both readers have good points and draw backs.  So I just use each for what it is best at.  I put most of my poetry on Sony, because it does PDF so well- the format is good, and I put them in folders.  The Kindle I have my mags. and newspapers. Books I just buy from whichever is cheaper, if both have the book.  Within the last month I've noticed that Sony content is almost identical to Amazon, except not as many variations of each title.  Meaning only four coupies of Tom Sawyer instead of 30 something..lol

I just get on the home page do a search for the book title, or part of the title, or author.  Then it shows up on search page, saves me a lot of time, plus it sjpws anything that is being indexed so I can tell if it is repeating indexing the same book.

That's a good question to ask.

Then when I want to reload my Kindle, I pop the memory card in my laptop and use the USB cable to transfer books.  I would feel lost if I didn't have my "Main Library" memory card with me at all times.

I know this is none of my business :-[ , but I feel interested enough to ask why you don't just go to Amazon media library and download to kindle what you want to read instead of all the memory cards?  Or is it stuff from other sites that aren't stored on Amazon? I just keep those on my computer and drop and drag like you do from memory cards. But I tend to lose little things  :-[ , that is why I am not card attached

I do it this way about once a week after I go into the setting and clear cookies ect. then restart.  I don't know why, and it may all be in my mind, but it seems to be having less hiccups since I started doing it.

I thought when you go under the settings menu, then click menu again and you get other options, one of which is "restart" was like the paper clip, or alt-shift-r.  It certainly takes as long to restart  ;D

No - for the Oberon Kindle cover, there isn't a choice.  For whichever design you choose, you get the color shown.  I just know I want one of the Saddle ones because those are my favorite designs.
Good that is what I wanted. As I said previously, I got my journal in a museam gift shop.

Does anyone know of someone who would like to sell their back issues? I have looked on ebay but there isn't any listed. Thanks in advance!   Donna
I have about 6 years of back issues, and I love them. That is probably why you can't find them on ebay, it is a great mag! I wish they'd Kindlize it. I've emailed a few times to put bugs in their ears, but they seem resistant.

I got the pebbled mocha with saddle trim.  I didn't get offered a choice of color when I ordered my Oberon Kindle 2.  I just picked design, was there a color choice spot that I missed  ??? , guess I should find out, or heaven knows what color they would send.

I have an Oberon journal cover that I have had for about 15 years.  It is still beautiful.  Probably more so than when I bought it.  They age with a patina that really adds to it over the years.  They become soft, and the depth of the color adds to the engravings over the years.   I feel like I'm babbling, but I just can't describe how beautiful they become over time.  When my hubby gets home I'll see if he can help me get a picture and load it of my Celtic hounds.  I bought it at a museum gift shop in about 1992 or 93. I have ordered one for my Kindle 2. I've also ordered one of the m-edge platforms.  I want to have something to use until the Oberon gets here.

I ordered on Jan. 1 and I have a ship date of Mar. 2.  And I am not happy about being pushed to the end of the line behind people who ordered 5 weeks after I did  :(

I spoke to Kindle CS yesterday and the rep confirmed that my scheduled ship date is Mar. 2.  She said I would be in the 'second shipment' because there were a lot of orders in December.  I'm sure there were a lot of December orders and I would expect to wait while theirs are shipped first.  But it appears that I will also continue to wait while they ship Kindles to people who ordered after I did.

I suspect they will ship my Kindle before Mar. 2 because they usually do....but if they do not I will be an unhappy camper....

I ordered my Kindle 1 Nov. of 2007.  I remember how hard it was to wait. It was January 08 before I actually had it in my hands.  I hate to say it, but back then, they had an estimated ship date of Jan. 11, 2008 and that is the day it shipped.  And not until after 9 pm, which meant my one day shipping didn't count because it was a weekend, so it was the following Tuesday before it was delivered.  The 11th was a Friday, after 9 pm meant Friday didn't count as a business day, Saturday and Sunday don't count in 1 day shippping. So Monday was their one day and I got it on Tuesday. I don't know if that was a fluke, but it felt like Amazon was using every loop hole they could find at the time to make it as long as possible.  Of course I'm sure they weren't.  But it felt like it at the time.  Maybe they had so many people in the first batch of Kindle 1 orders that had experienced that when they first launched Kindle they have taken pity on us now, hence the bump.  I am sorry that new to Kindle people are being pushed back though.  As it just makes others experience frustration.  I'll bet Amazon is MUCH better prepared this time.  I know I ordered my Kindle 2 before the "announcement" and I didn't do anything, they just changed the estimated ship date from 2nd week in March to Feb. 25 automatically. Which to me, proved they are much more on top of things now.

My name is Laura, I really like this community.  It seems so helpful and positive.

Kindle Accessories / Re: Sony Cover with light
« on: February 16, 2009, 06:24:58 am »
I have the Sony 700, I use it in this 505 case with the light wedge and it works really well.  The 700 built in light is from the sides and I think that has something to do with the glare.  Overall it works well.  I do understand why Kindle doesn't have a built in light, but one like this wouldn't be a bad option to buy.

The directions on how to download content from Kindle 1 to Kindle 2 are in the Kindle 2 guide, on the Kindle support page.  I opened the azw (?) format (kindle format) and read it on Mobi, then sent it to my Kindle 1.  It is on page 122 in mobi or location 1156-60 on kindle. ;)
