Well, I still don't have even an estimated date for my (mother's birthday) Merlot 3G No-SO. I called Amazon again but they are consistent in saying that I will receive an email by the May 4 release date with a ship date. Are there others of you with the same model ordered who do have estimated ship dates?

I ordered the day of announcement at 8:45 am central time. I have an ship date of May 2 and "arrival" date of  May 4th (I did prime 2 day shipping.) Merlot cover 3G without offers. Never got an email except confirm order.

The 'keyboard' kindle is the 3rd gen. Though the 2nd gen also had a keyboard, it wasn't until the release of the Touch -- actually nearly a year after the 3rd gen -- that there was more than one model available. With the release of the Touch and the 3rd gen still being on sale, Amazon began referring to it as the Keyboard model to distinguish it. They also released a basic model that they just called it "kindle" so "keyboard" and "touch" referred to the higher end models.

Hard to see how I got confused  :D

I've had a lot of different kindles since my kindle 1 on release. But are you calling the kk (kindle keyboard?) because wasn't the kindle keyboard the k2.

I read away from home a lot. So I use my 3G several times a day, to use Wikipedia or sync the device. I buy books away from home. I don't use free wifi out in public on my kindle or my phone because of the risk of hacking into my account and I usually have a few hundred on an amazon gift card that I get for Christmas and birthday for books. I have had 3G on all my devices except the fires. And I seldom use those, unless my kindle is charging.

I ordered oasis with 3G and no offers, merlot, mine has an "arrival" date of 5/4 but no ship date.

I don't use the buttons on voyage often because when it is in the case in my purse, with cover closed (so asleep) the pages turn. But I tried reading with the "buttons" turning the page last night and now it vibrates with each turn. I mean a real vibration like when your cell phone is on silent. Is this something withthenew update. I find it annoying.

Juliann, about the Count of Monte Cristo, for me I had to try several before I got the one that fit me. The Robin Buss kindle translation was good and easy to navigate on kindle. I can't remember how to find or use link-maker so her is link.

I get a daily email from book gorilla and it was on there yesterday morning, so I got it. I signed up for a daily notification of kindle book deals and set how many books, and what categories I wanted noticed about each day. It has worked great for me. I found about about it by listening to the kindle chronicals on podcast.

My kindlefire HDx just updated on its own to 4.5.5. Can't see a difference yet.

Exactly.  Harry was 11 in the first book and it was written with that age reader in mind.  But the stories/style change as Harry ages and by the last book it's essentially 'grown up'.  But, of course, if you've not read the earlier ones, the last couple won't make much sense! :o

Agreed. It is one of my favorite series, and I re read them in order every few years. The beginning ones do feel "young". But I like that for a couple of reasons, one of which is sentimental. It reminds me of when my daughter, at 11, and I read them together and talked about them.

OK, it's time for me to get this off my chest. I've been silent much too long. I really don't care about Harry Potter! I read the first book after enthusiastic recommendations from two of my closest friends. I honestly do not remember whether I finished it or not!  As I recall, it was an awful, but I just didn't really care about it. I never even considered reading any of the following books.

(Stepping off soapbox)

There! I finally said it. It's a liberating feeling to out myself at last.

I completely respect your feelings. But I do want to say, as a fifth grade teacher, people do forget the first three or so of the series were written as childrens books.  And they do read like children's books. I have to explain that to parents sometimes who expect to read them and get the same level of mental/emotional pull into the writing as they would a young adult or adult book. But that isn't the audience they were written for until the last couple of books, which are writing on a 8-11 grade (YA) reading level.
So, I am taking the long way, HC, of saying I understand your feelings.

Edited to add: FYI: The first book is written on a 3rd grade lexile (reading level).

I just read that he died today at age 84. Very sad to lose such a talent.

What I don't like about special offers is that you have to swipe the screen to get passed them. I have the amazon cover and without specislnoffers I open cover and am on home screen or last page of books. When I had special offers I had to open cover and swipe to get to home screen. Not a big deal, but the opening cover and it turning on to home screen was one of the selling points of magnetic cover.

Oh, dang it. I grabbed that one solely based on it was listed as Fantasy and wanted to grab something before I forgot like last month. Would not have gotten it had I known it was not first in series. *sigh* At least it was free...

According to the description on amazon this is the debut book of the author. First in series. Second is the glass magician, not released until November.

I got it. I'm reading the Dovekeepers now but when I'm done I'll read Artful then lend it to you.

I am reading The Robe on paper because the kindle reviews show a lot of errors and too many distract me.

I just finished Longbourn , it is Pride and Prejudice from the servants prospective. A good read. Now reading  Peyton Place.  I'm only 15% but like it so far. A very character driven novel so far.
