Just thought I'd stick my oar in here. I've been ill and confined to bed for 18 mos. I don't know what it would be like without tts. Yes, it takes getting used to but, just think I don't have to hold the kindle. My daughter gets it loaded with books I want and I am all set. Lots of times I fall asleep and then I do have to get back to the place I left off. I also listen to audio books from audible, but the they are a might costly. I hope they never do away with this feature. Don't need sympathy. I am on the mend. Just want you to think of the many people who are in my position. There is a great need for this. If you know any place to beg for them to keep this feature. Let me know. I'll do the begging.

I was certain I saw one without the ads for 189.00. I get all nervous when I call about issues and forget to ask the right ?s. No reason for it. They are always very kind.  I did ask if it was the 189.00 model he said it was but now I don't see it. I sure would have pd extra for no ads. Oh well I am just glad I bought the warr. When I bought mine it was $259 The first the controller butten broke, now I dropped it. So I have had 3. I think I will buy the warr. again.

About 7am this morning I knocked my K2 off the bed and had a blank screen, unable to get any response on it I called Kindle support. I bought the ex warr. in 2010. I had no problem they are shipping me the keyboard Kindle, I should have it Tues. I am well satisfied. I wish I would have ask if I could upgrade to the fire, just to see if they would. I only use the reader so I don't need it.  I really had no intentions of getting a new one, but I can't go on without my reader. I miss it already. I did ask if it was the one advertised for $189.00 he said yes, now when I look I can only find 149.00 with ads. I don't want ads but I might not have a choice.

The clock is running but, time is wrong. It's 5:30 PM, K2 shows 10:01 PM. Reset did not change. I don't mind you asking about volume, I have been known for silly mistakes. My DH checked that a couple of times. I did buy the extended warranty. The K2 I have now is already a replacement, I guess I knew before I posted I was going to have to call support, just hate losing the K2, I have handled the K3, not crazy about the size but since I do have the warranty, I will go that way. Hope I don't buy the K3 and they come with K4 1 month later. I don't handle change well. I still listen to a record player and 8 track player that works. Thanks for the ideas

All of a sudden 2 days ago when I plugged in the earphones 2 listen 2 an audio book there isn't any sound. Sometimes it will start and then quit. I have 2 pr at the house and both are the same. I went and bought another pr today. They are not working either. My clock hasn't worked for awhile, I like the clock but I can live without it. However my dh isn't interested in listening to my books and I have insomnia, listen a lot at night, don't want 2 keep dh awake. My warrenty is good until Jan 2012 but I like the size of the K2. I have RA twisted hands and I think the K3 would be hard to hold when just reading. Has anyone been able 2 get a k2 replacement since K3 came out. Maybe someone knows a fix. My dh tried running the hairdryer lightly across the hole. We live in Fl. humidity is bad and he thought it might have gotten moisture, as I read on a screen porch a lot. TIA

For Nov. Dec. Jan. I have 63 books 40 free 23 pd. 43.25. Add audible membership 68.00, 3 mos.  5 audios no credits 39.12. Comes to about 50.50 month. I am sure I do this every mo. I am wondering why no one counts the cost of the Kindle? I have had the second K2 in 14 mos. I pd 259.00 plus a cover I never use, and 65 or 68.00 for insurance. ( I am glad I had it when the first one quit. )
Before Kindle I used library 15 mile round trip, used book store, 60 miles round trip, Garage sales, so at the price of gas I don't know if I am saving or not. I only have 9 unread books, 61 in collections, means they are part of a series, or books I will read again. 98 in archive, I clean this out via computer every other mo, because I will not read them again. I think you pay for convenience. I wouldn't go back to dealing with all that clutter again. I cancelled tv movie channels, ( didn't watch anyhow.) and quit a couple mag. subscriptions to make up for my habit. I don't feel a bit guilty. Love that Kindle

It seems I had the books importing into windows media player, for some reason it quit working. I changed it into audible manager restarted the computer now it's working again. The rep never did call me back. Instead I got an email wondering why I wanted to cancell my acct. The thought never crossed my mind. I really hate dealing with most supports.  CS is the exception they are great, and thanks to you all I fixed it. I was wondering how you link your Amazon and Kindle accounts? Can you tell me where to find it?

I have been using for books for 14 mos since I purchased my Kindle. Yesterday it downloaded to the computer but would not go to audible manager or windows media. Never had any trouble before. I called their support today and after trying a couple of things the rep told me to restart the computer and he would call me back in 30 mins. It's been 2 hrs and no response. Would you call back or continue to wait. I don't want to be a pest but do you think he just forgot?

That is the same thing I did I guess it can't be used for Kindle books. That's a shame kindle books are all I buy at Amazon, other then my K2. I'm glad it wasn't more then $5, I would have been upset.

« on: January 13, 2011, 02:19:15 pm »
I bought a amazon card for my ebooks account.  They sent me $5 promotional #. I know you have to buy something but whenever I try to apply it to my account it says there is a problem. I am trying 2 buy books that are more then 5. I have 1 click on my page so I don't put ebooks in a cart. What am I missing? I really hope this isn't another supid question. But Oh well.

I think you have to get used 2 the tts, i like it. I think the male voice is the best. It does make you stop a minute when you hear, miss Nancy called Mississippi Nancy, but I get much of my work done while listening  to my books. I really love audiobooks. I signed up 4 the 22.95 a mo. that gives me 2 credits a mo. Thats  2 free. you can save up 2, 12 credits. I try to be careful and only buy books I will listen 2 again and again as they are a bit more money. I have an over blouse with a big pocket I carry my K2 in so I don't have 2 use the ear buds when I am alone. I am a senior citizen and not 2 good with all these gadgets. This board help me learn how 2 use audible. I have only been able to keep about 8 audiobooks on my K2. They are always in your library at audible on your computer. I hear they take a lot of space on your computer also. One poster said they had about 600. I don't know how that works. I think tts and audio are well worth trying.

I do think your taste change as you get older. But, you have to consider a 9, 10 ,11, year old reading a lot of these classics, I don't think I understood them. I think the children of today might. They seem far more advanced ( to me anyhow. ) Isn't it wonderful how differently we see what we read. Wodehouse makes me laugh out loud. To me Bertie is selfish and afraid of commitment and Jeeves saves him from himself everytime. Now I have to read Mumro, I already ordered Rappaccini's Daughter from Amazon. Don't do it. It is a corrupt file and even CS hasn't been able to remove it from my K2. I will try Podiobooks. Old habbits are hard to break and free books are great. My thing with new books is I don't like Sci-Fi, Zombies, and many of the new stuff. Just an old realist I guess. Series are another thing that drives me nuts, by the time the next book has come out I 've read 50 books and i can't just pickup the thread, I think that is also an age thing.

I was reading a thread on another kindle board about trashing the classics. A couple were praising this book and I thought I had to read it. As far as I can see its the only version for Kindle. I wish they would delete it, if it doesn't work. Now foreverjuly is pushing it 2. Must be good. I need to go back and read the user guide again, I don't know what you mean by deleting from the doument folder., and the cs never mentioned it.

Read the entire thread, very glad I did. All my life I have been an avid reader. In my early years I didn't have a lot of money for books so I would read anything I could get my hands on. Friends and family would pass their books on so thats what I read. That means with different tastes. I read a lot of genres. Always finished a book even if I didn't like it. Going through the names of the classics you have mentioned, very few I havn't read. When I noticed a lot of your dislikes I had to chuckle. I didn't like them either. I always thought it was because I wasn't well enough educated to understand or  appreciate them. Maybe the stories were not that interesting. I have a completed 7th grade education. I am fortunate enough to have a K2 and an account that myself and my children and grandchildren keep gift cards in that I can read what I want. Still My collections consist of authors. Austin, Bronte, Dickens, Trollope, Warton, Wodehouse, Hyer ( writes like Austin, IMO,) Guy de Maupassant ( A fellow who really needed Prosac.) I just need to say, while I do like newer books and authors as well, not well enough to keep them and read them again. I will take one posters advice and try some on audiobooks, it might make me understand the message better. Thanks for this thread.

After nothing I tried worked I called CS this am. After he tried everything, It still shows on the K2. He said it is gone from all files and refunded my .99. I told him I would put it in a collection under corrupt file and forget it. He said it couldn't hurt the devise and thinks it will disappear on its own. I wonder if anyone else ordered this book?

Message on K2, Can not be opened. If you purchased from Amazon, delete and redownload it from archived items,
available in home. I did this, still doesn't work. Now I can't remove it from the device or read it. It is just stuck on the home page. I tried reboot K2 still there. Wonder why? It's not the .99, I just wonder why I can't even archive it? I did want 2 read it. Thanks

You know after 2 days looking at gift cards and trying to figure this out I finally did the gift card thing and it worked fine. You don't really see it until you get to the checkout. ( my thinking process is not as great as it used to be. ) Wouldn't it be easy if the just had a link saying add money to your account? Maybe they do but I can't find it.

Let's Talk Kindle! / I bought a K1 from a member. Love it.
« on: December 07, 2010, 12:36:59 pm »
I been playing around with the K1 I purchased from a member. It came just like brand new with a wonderful cover and an extra battery. I was going to use it just for audio books, but i'm thinking I will use it for the reading books, instead of my K2. The back on the K1 is just wonderful.  I have RA and it hard to hold the K2.
I don't like the heavy covers when i'm home but I do cover it when I go out. Well I won't go on and on but I do want her to know how happy I am with my purchase. May into the new year I will get a K3, if they don't come out with a K4 first.

I also read mine naked at home. Mine is a K2, I have the original cover for it but I carry it in a small binocular case that fits right in my purse. It's softer and I think safer.
Wouldn't the K3 fit in a camara case? I never throw old cases away I figure someone will need it for something.

AHH, I see what you mean what ever one I hook up to the computer
is the one it will go on. Wouldn't you think I could have figured that out?
Why do I let myself open to look so foolish. Thanks so much

Let's Talk Kindle! / Is there a way to reset the clock on the K2?
« on: October 22, 2010, 11:55:23 am »
My clock on the replacment K2 they sent me is working but the time is 4 hrs off. This just happened 2 days ago, I can't find anything in the manual on time setting. I like having the clock as I don't wear a watch and it is so handy.
