Last night was was in the middle of a "don't put the book down!!!" section of the book I was reading. After trying to fight to stay awake I finally had to give up. So this morning I woke up eager to pick up where I left off. I was also faced with the problem that the book I am listening to on my iPod is in the same kind of place. So I decided to continue with my audiobook on the way to work.

I have about a 2 block walk from where I park so I pulled out my trusty Kindle and began reading as I walked. I looked up periodically to make sure I was not walking into parked cars and such and then just as I was about to cross the final street. I looked behind me because something had brushed my arm. I had people on both sides of me craning their heads to read my book. I think I had about 5 people around me all told. This made me giggle a bit. Many of them were people I am working with on a project on how to use Unified Communications technology to enhance classroom experiences at a technical college so this spawned some very interesting discussions.

So that was my giggle moment of the day...It was kind of surreal to look up and see people reading my book as I walked :)

It totally weirds me out when people read over my shoulder or just hover in general... I would have been seriously perturbed in your situation!

Thats pretty funny, next generation of kindle should have a projector screen to project the book onto any nearby flat surfaces in supersize

Shhhhh...how did you know about my vampire porn!!!

It was a bit odd though. I just love my Kindle so much that it didn't even faze me.

I actually just met up with some of those people at lunch and we talked about how this type of technology could make things easier for students in so many ways. In the technical colleges there is a higher percentage of students with disabilities and many of the Kindle features would be of assistance!

You are so right about the impact on special needs education.
And I am glad that you did not trip or run into anything while reading (I suspect that I would have).  :D
Last night on my commute home the person interested in my K2 was an author who was interested in it because he wants to pursue publishing ebooks.
The more that the Kindles are visible in society the more uses will pop up as NEEDING them.  Or at least I think so.

I think your story was very funny.  I took my KK with me to the UofA Bookstore today (was waiting about 1/2 hr. to purchase Sweet 16 Shirts that were being delivered) and actually put KK on the checkout counter to read, there were lots of people around me and not one asked me anything about it  Too weird!  I was so disappointed.

I am concerned about your walking and reading!  I'd walk into a lamp post, or car, or something someone did not pick up after their dog or, but then again you were protected  ::)

***I used to walk home from junior high school, up very steep rolling hills until I got to the flat sections & crossing streets, while reading my paperback books, & I survived. LOL!!!
***Your story is hilarious, but also creepy. That would have scared the bejeejees out of me to look up & see all those people. I'm glad you knew them. If you must read, please be aware of your surroundings. You don't want someone mugging you for your Kindle or something worse.
***If I see someone with a book, I'll be straining to see what the person is reading. Same thing if you are sketching in public. People get curious.

Too funny.
There are folks at my work that try to nonchalantly walk past my desk to see what I'm looking at.  They won't stop and ask, I think, because I'm new, and because my desk is right in front of the judge, and I normally have at least one police officer near me as a protective barrier, at least during criminal court.  So my desk is not that easy to access.  But after 3 months a couple of them have asked me what it is.
