This may actually only work for books that you're recommending. I tried "My book I wish more readers knew about is..." and I didn't get an email notification. But you can swap out the titles that you recommend and we know those emails go out.

I think this is a great tool and that Amazon may be trying to leverage it better or gasp, give the author more control over it. If you haven't visited Author Central to update the section where you can recommend your own books, it's worth a visit. I was pleasantly surprised to see over 1600 followers on a pen name I've just started publishing on again after a couple of years hiatus. We'll see if it makes up for the loss of Author Rank. Others weren't such a good fan, but I had quite a few readers tell me that they found me on the top authors list for my categories.
