There are actually books I am considering this month - woohoo! Also, there are 8 choices this month.

I am interested in both thrillers (leaning towards Thin Air) and the Literary Suspense. It's nice to have some choices besides only memoirs and Historical Fiction. I haven't taken advantage of First Read choices in over a year.

Wow! There are! Go figure .... these three all look interesting to me ....

I didn't get one last month, don't remember about the month before. But it has been slim pickins for some time.
Yes, those are the same 3 I am considering (you and I really do have similar reading preferences in mystery/thriller types).

Another thing I noticed at the bottom of the First Reads page on Amazon is a statement that all First Reads books will be available for borrowing in KU starting next month. Maybe that's always been there and I just didn't pay attention because I don't subscribe to KU? I mean, the FR books are always Amazon imprints, so it makes sense they are in Select and therefore KU. It does make it easier to choose one you're most interested in to "own" if you know you can borrow any of them later if you are a KU subscriber.

I think that has always been there. I have KU so I can get them later anyway. All the first reads are amazon published and so are always in KU a month later. Problem of course been so far that I couldn't even find one I was interested in each month so no use to me if they were going to be in KU later.

Like you guys, I see 2 for sure that look interesting. Same ones Ann posted. Not sure about The Mask. Its another possibility, but the other 2 are more up my alley I think.

Slightly different choice again in the UK this month.

Two extra books this month (it's usually six isn't it?) and like everyone else I'm gobsmacked that there are not just one, but several I like the look of. Maybe it's a different person in charge of choosing this month. ;D

Not only One Small Sacrifice and Thin Air but another one not on the US list - an historical mystery Light In The Shadows.

Decisions, decisions .....

An art mystery/thriller! I would have grabbed that for sure. It is available for pre-order at $4.99 in the US. I'll put it on a wish list and see if I can get it as a KOLL borrow next month.

I think it has been the case. Further, they're usually in Prime Reading as well. AND if you do GoodReads giveaways, they're almost always listed there as well under the kindle giveaways.

Wish this one from the Uk selection was available in US:

Not sure I want to pre-order at full price, but I'll look for it in Prime Reading or KOLL

Still trying to decide which one to go for so I've been looking at the reviews.

One Small Sacrifice has about 50 reviews on Amazon US, with an average of 4.5 stars. On Amazon UK it has considerably fewer reviews but none of them are above 3 stars - UK readers are just not loving this book. Interesting difference!

Thin Air seems to be much better liked here, though I'm leaning towards Light In The Shadows though it has only one review - but it is 5 stars.

Hmmm...

I decided to pass this month .... nothing REALLY leaped ... and I do have plenty of reading material already. :D
I do understand, but I am surprised you went from months of "slim pickins" to three real possibilities this month to zero! I'm hoping if more folks download choices like they had this month, they'll keep other thriller/mystery/suspense in the rotations and not lean so heavily to literary/WWII fiction in the future.

I went with Thin Air and I've moved it near the top of the reading list instead of relegating it to the bottom of the mountain. I also still want to check out the UK choice of Light in the Shadows when it is available here.

Yeah ... I know ... but I re-read all the descriptions and they were all just 'maybes'. Still, your point is well taken, so maybe I'll get one for that reason -- I've still got a week. ;)

I wish we had that UK choice, too!

I got it, too ... am a quarter of the way through. :D
Ahem, from the HR thread ...

That's fair ..... but my mind is boggling that you managed to read a book you bought within 7 days.  My lag time averages months, if not years! ;D ;D
;D ;) Of course I realize it's a borrow, not a buy, but it's not like it couldn't stay on your account indefinitely!

You caught me! ;D (And I actually do have several Prime borrows that I've had for a couple of years! Not even sure they're still in the program. ::))

But it looked so good .... and so far I am enjoying it. I actually have several going at the same time including my June KOLL title and a couple of library books, not to mention Moby Dick for a book club. I find I'm in the mood for different things depending on the time of day.
