My debut novel, Perpetual Love has been out for about a month and a half and I would like to know what it takes to get Amazon/Kindle to include it in new releases, etc.

Bribery and corruption perhaps?
No one knows except the sales and marketing reps at Amazon.

Unless your one of the big publishers, it probably comes down to a combination of high sales from your previous books, someone at Amazon noticing your book and a lot of luck.

When I began to upload about seven months ago (completely unknown to Amazon except for a few raggedry second hand print books being sold by others second hand) they included the books in the  "new in the last thirty days" list.  I thought it was automatic but if it isn't that is too bad.  At least you could count on that list to get you jump started.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are a lot of different lists on Amazon.

Some lists and categories like "new in the last thirty days" are automatic. Other aren't. These lists include a number of lists featured on the front page of the Kindle Store in sections like "New for You" and "New and Noteworthy". What is listed as "New for You" section will depend on your prior spending habits, recommendations and searches while Amazon has complete control over what novels are listed in the "New and Noteworthy" section. In addition, Amazon has editors that compile lists and make blog posts about Kindle books / apps. Publishers pay to feature their books in some sections and there are lists maintained by Amazon users.
