I agree with the others about moving the author's name to the top and all other text to the bottom. There's simply more room at the bottom, so it makes sense to put the bulk of your text there.

Frankly, I think dark text against the fiery background would look pretty awesome.

Wow, it's amazing what a difference some changes in typography and spacing can make. This looks fantastic! The first one looked like 90s video game art, which is fine in the context of what the story is, but wouldn't catch my eye. Jeff's version would.
