So my husband has surprised me w/a 3 day mini vacation to LV in April (14-17).  We're staying at athe JW Marriott LV Resort and Spa at Summerlin and wondering if anyone has any dining, things to do (besides lounging at the pool!) recommendations.  We'll also probably take one night and go see the Strip as neither of us has been to LV before.  Thanks in advance!

Hi Ruby,
The Marriott in Summerlin is nice.......you're not very far from Red Rock if you are going to have a car you can drive thru the loop & if you like hiking/walking there are trails. Mount Charleston is ok, just a mountain with an over prices lodge to eat at the top! (we go up there to get away from the heat in the summer-usually 20-25 degrees cooler.)
You are near quite a few restaurants........Kona Grill, Cheesecake Factory, Mimi's Cafe, Claim Jumper, PF Changs, and a newer one called Sandstone (I think) If you come to the strip, and happen to come to Wynn/Encore during the day ask for Kristie-it will be fun to see a "kindleboader"!  :)
Being that I work in a casino, I am all for the lounging by the pool thing, also I hav heard that the spa there is wonderful, so maybe try that.
Anyway, enjoy-don't lose too much money. :p

Wow Luckily you are going to be in an area I am familar with. (its near the college).
-In the Sun Coast (right next door to the Marriott), there is a mexican restraunt Senior Miguel's which has an AWESOME marigarita brunch. its an all you can eat buffet and marigaritas. Its only Sundays
-Exploring all the sights that the Strip has to offer in one night is hard. Make sure you have a lot of memory space in your camera and wear good shoes.
-Paris sells gelato like many of the casinos, but theirs is my personal favorite and it doesn't cost as much. This is usually a family pit stop to get away from the heat and get off our feet.
-If you are a Vicki Pettersson fan you would love to visit the Neon Boneyard, which is a musuem. It consists of many of the signs from old casinos that no longer are in business. Cool place to take pictures. You have to make arrangements before hand. Haven't gone myself, but am making plans. Here's the site: http://www.neonmuseum.org/boneyard.html
-If you like hiking there is Red Rock Canyon.
-If you are golfers, there are several great golf courses there....I volunteered at the tournaments
wow I have to go through my diary to look through for great spots. I like to put little review complete with the place's business card to keep track

of course I am partial to Le Reve (it's at Wynn) and Danny Gans is at Encore. (did you see him on Larry King last week?)
Le Reve has gotten so much better over time. They have made lots of changes......had Maks from Dancing with the Stars come do choreography, it's really good.

I'd also avoid people in uniforms asking for a moment of your time...they are selling time shares. They are stationed all around the strip

Thank you ALL so much!!  I am going to print this page out and take it with me :0)  I'm going to see what shows are scheduled while we are there and go from there.  I've heard Vegas is alot of fun!  Oh and I forgot to ask this-how would you describe typical weather at that time of year?  Is it really hot in April?
Thanks again,
Ruby

It depends. This year it looks like its going to be really warm. Right now in March is when the weather fluxs between hot and cold. By the time April comes in the weather is pretty temperate. Still its a dry hot here. So it could be a 100 degrees, but sometimes it doesn't feel like it. (Well I used to have tennis summer training in 115 degrees) Just ALWAYS keep a water bottle with you.

Thanks! Living in the NE I am not used to dry heat at all.

My one recommendation for everyone going to Las Vegas is to eat at the Paris Buffet..breakfast, dinner (either or both..I always choose both). The food is excellent, but the atmosphere is worth the price of admission
Sounds good, thanks!
