Anybody else snowed in today?

It's snowing like crazy here, about 100 miles north of D.C. Heavy, wet snow, the worst kind. I just took a broom and knocked the snow off the low hanging branches on my sweet bay magnolia (which I never should have planted in Pennsylvania). The snow had bent the branches to the ground.

The locals have also emptied the stores of milk and toilet paper... like they think nobody is going to get out of their house for a week.

Everything is closed. . . .but Ed has to go into the church anyway so he'll drop me at the Pentagon and I can get a lot of catching up done while there is no one in the building. :D

AND, I will likely have the opportunity to check in here once in a while. ::)

Not snowed in today, the storm hit us Sunday night and we were snowed in yesterday with 5".  It sounds like you all are getting heavier amounts than that today.  It is a heavy, wet snow, but there were thankfully no power outages.  I hope the same holds true there.  Stay safe!

As Ann said, everything is closed...except our two stores.   ;)  DH is a never say die kind of person with bad weather.  He and DS (under protest) opened until 12:30 or 1:00.  He said they had to go in so he could do payroll, place orders and clean and feed the two or three shelter cats at each store (we have them there for adoptions), so they might as well be open for cutomers as long as they are there.  No other employees are working.  DS insists (correctly) that DH could do payroll and place orders from home but agrees that the cats have to be fed and watered and clean up after.

It's getting bad here tho'.

Edited:  By 11:00 the chores were done DH and DS closed the stores and are on their way home. :)

It's been a nice spring day today, almost warm enough for T-shirts.
But then again, I don't live in your hemisphere...  ;)

Be safe, people, don't slip on the ice.  :)

Yep, here in northeast Indiana we got 10" of snow yesterday afternoon into evening! They were saying 6", maybe 8" in some areas, so we got more than they predicted for once. They usually say we'll get snow and then get nothing or not much. Kiddos are off school and enjoying the abundance of snow. First big snowfall of the season here. If you're in the path of the heavy snow, look out. It dropped here at about an inch per hour once it got started.

Snowed in with only 5"? ;) We got that or more yesterday. We're not "snowed in". But I'm probably in a more urban area that can clear, plow, shovel, and salt the streets and sidewalks.

Also depends on how far south it is. Way back when I was in college at Miami U., we used to joke about how Cincinnati (about 30 miles south of us) would shut down if it got a couple inches of snow, because their one snow plow could not keep up with it. :)

How much trouble a snowfall is, is, of course, very much dependent on how 'used' an area is to large snowfall.  Chicago obviously gets much more regularly than the DC area.  So what might just be a nuisance there is a bigger deal here.  After all, there's no use maintaining 500 snow removal trucks if most winters you only need 100.  But then when you get that snowfall where 500 would come in handy, you're just going to have to deal with being short. :-\  Not to mention that we have a lot of folks in the area who are transplants from warmer climes and not familiar with driving in it. . . . so it's best to just make 'em stay home and off the roads. :D

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view, I guess) the promised 4 to 8 inches in the DC metro area didn't really materialize.  The snow/rain line ended up staying much further west than any of the models predicted, so by 8 a.m. it was pretty much 'wintry mix' and it never switched back to snow as predicted.  So most of the day was basically just rain.  Still miserably cold though, so really just a nasty day. :( Snow would have been much better!

And yet, just a few miles west and north, there's much more snow and power outages from the heavy snow snapping wires.

Yes, snowed in with 8 inches. I am about 48 miles SW of Columbus, Ohio......in the country.......on a little township road. But the roads were cleared by this afternoon and I managed to get through the snow in my lane with my front wheel drive mini van. Did a little fish tailing and a bit heavy on the gas, but I got out! Hubby on the other hand, got stuck coming in. He drives a PT cruiser.......a bit lower to the ground! Tomorrow might be a bit more adventurous as he didn't have time this evening to take the tractor and blade and plow it out. Melt and refreeze. Oh boy.

But the Labs and I had a blast playing in the snow!

Still. It looks good on the resume
Depends who you work for. I do taxes; I work for H&R Block. Office just happens to be in the Pentagon -- and a busy office it is, too!

True, there are people who work in the Pentagon who work for the Secretary of Defense or other major defense organizations or contractors.

There are also janitors, drug store clerks, and food service workers. :D

Admittedly, one does have to have a background check -- even if all you're going to do is flip burgers at the McDonalds or clean the bathrooms.
