Hi,

I've just been contacted by an audiobook company called Tantor Media. Does anyone know anything about them? Or have any advice?

Thanks!!

Bumping for any words of wisdom ...
Looked at their web site. Seem interesting. If they want no money upfront and want to produce your audiobook and take a percentage of royalties, perhaps you should consider them as a possibility. Their list of authors and narrators they are claiming as being in their stable includes many impressive names.

But, it looks like they are a publisher (ie - they would own the rights to the audio recording). If they want any money from you other than royalties, I would stay away. Using ACX, you can pay someone upfront and keep the rights, or you can share royalties with the audio producer and pay no money upfront.
I'm a narrator for Tantor. They are rock solid, at least from my experience.
Tantor is a VERY reputable audiobook company, that produces audiobooks for some of the biggest names in the business.

Thanks for replying! Yeah the website looks good. I guess I'm just entrenched in the indie mindset of keeping control of my rights, lol. But on the flip side, I don't know when I'd get the time to sort out the audio side of things myself. I guess I'll wait to see what they have to say.

And ACX sounds interesting :)
Thanks Jeffrey and Amanda for your endorsements. That makes me feel a whole lot better about talking with them.

Jeffrey - I always thought narration would be something I'd love to do. I do a great Scottish accent  ;D
Slightly off topic, but does anyone know an ACX alternative for Canadians?
I don't have any experience from a writer's standpoint, but as a reader, I love to listen to audiobooks and often buy them from Tantor.  I've never had any problems and also believe they are a reputable company.
I've VO'd three (so far) of my own books with ACX (the kitten book, cats-competability and Lost & Found thriller) and they're all selling very well. Fiction sells better. If you don't have the professional recording software and ability to edit, go with someone who can do it for you--either through ACX or if Tantor will fund it, sounds like a deal!
Thanks guys, I'll wait to hear what she says. Appreciate all the feedback. You all rock  :)
