Author Central "Editorial Reviews" Question

975 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Becca Mills
You know how Author Central has all those nice extra fields you can fill in? "From the Author," "From the Inside Flap," "From the Back Cover," etc.? If you write something in one of those fields, the field and the text you've added appear on your Amazon book page. If you leave the field alone, it never shows up on your book page at all.

Well, when I got Amazon to make a Nolander update available for download, I used Author Central's "From the Author" field to let readers know the update was there and how to get it. But a number of months have passed, and I think it's time to take that information down.

The problem: now that I've put something into the "From the Author" field, Author Central won't let me empty the field out again. If I try deleting all the text I put in, I get a nice error message telling me I need to "provide content" for the field. It won't let me save the field as empty.

Any ideas?

This happened to me, as well. What I did was write a new sentence to put in there. I guess that's kind of a silly solution, but I didn't want to email them for help. (Because I think you get better algorithms if you don't bug them ... ha ha ... I'm starting a rumor!)

Heh. This solution -- just putting something or other in there -- did occur to me. Unfortunately, that field is actually visible on the main book page, so having it there without any valuable content feels like a waste. If I could get rid of the field, "From the Back Cover" might move up and be visible.

Dalya, I find your cat both adorable and oddly alarming. Is he/she a rex?
Try putting in a couple of spaces and see if that works. Or perhaps a return or two.

Sigh. Tried that. But thanks for the idea, Maggie. Author Central: not easily fooled!

I recall having the same problem. I eventually broke down and clicked the little "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page. As I recall, they were very nice about fixing it. I just hate having to ask for help with something so simple.
Thanks, jljarvis. My one hesitation is that I've gotten the idea from somewhere that once AC starts doing stuff to your page directly, you stop being able to do things to it on your own. Not true?? If not, I'll happily contact-us away: I've no pride. :)

Bumping this up just once, in case any morning KB users have suggestions ...
Wish the reader a nice day in elven runes to add a little mystery to the book:

Heh. Being a less sophisticated type, I added a limerick ... but I'd rather have nothing at all. I'll just write to 'em. What a silly glitch in an otherwise fine platform.
