B&N reporting on Smashwords: broken?

1083 Views 12 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  AnitaDobs
I've been anticipating some big numbers on B&N for one of my books, based on its sales rank. Smashwords just updated and I see only ONE sale. I'm positive I had more than that, based on previous history with sales rank vs SW postings.

Has anyone else experienced this strange phenomenon?

Barnes & Noble has been having a lot of problems the past couple of months. (And, yes, based on my experience with a pricing change problem I had, the issues are primarily on B&N's end, not Smashwords.) I'm not sure why it is, but, well, it just is.
Did you check under 2012 sales, too?  Some of the sales I'd been waiting for were posted under 2013, some under 2012.
Yeah, I was wondering why I didn't sell a single book over Christmas until I realised Christmas was in 2012, not 2013 :).
I agree, my sales for November and December were half what they should've been on a regular month.

I just rechecked to make sure I didn't miss something. Both 2012 and 2013 are definitely lacking in sales. Something's amiss :(
I must be broken, because I have 1 sale, and that's way more than usual.
Mine seem okay: several thousand in each of November and December, and a few hundred for 1-3 January 2013. That's for four books with rankings in the 3,000s and 4,000s.
I recently (November) pulled my book from Select and listed it with B&N. I have not had any sales reported even though I did have a friend buy it from them several weeks ago...still not showing.
I hope there is something wrong with B&N reporting to Smashwords, or that it isn't caught up yet, because I find it hard to believe I went from sales across all formats of over 700+ books, to just 1 book in December.

I'll give it a day or two, and then I'll be sending out some emaills.

I was doing okay with sales directly on BN's Pubit. But, for December, sales tanked. So far January is about the same. I'd like to think something's wrong and it'll be corrected soon.

Lisa, keep us updated if that email goes out. Would love to hear what they say. I mentioned it to Smashwords when Apple changed some categories and my sales were lopped in half. They said without a receipt from every missing sale, and since that's impossible since apple doesn't give me that, I was out of luck.

I have kind of wondered to myself if the reason B&N figures took so long in coming was because something went wrong with them on someone's end. If others have sales that are not complete, and by the sounds of it that's an impossibility in your case Lisa, then I wonder what that means for the rest of us. :(

Edit: Sudden update... I just noticed B&N has updated some Jan 2013 sales on Smash! So check and make sure. Which would mean they took only 4 days to update to Smash... mine are dated Jan 10... I find it slightly hard to believe they are Jan sales so quick as oppossed to leftovers from December, but you never know.
