Barron's, for those who are unfamiliar, is a prominent weekly stock market paper. It has an article on Amazon which says that the Kindle is already a significant help to Amazon's profitability. It says that Sony and other companies are working hard to try to stop Amazon from getting a stranglehold on the ebook business. It also says the the cost of customer "fulfillment" is 8.3% of revenue for the rest of Amazon, but only 2% to 3% for the Kindle books. This can significant increase their profit margins. The article also calls for Amazon selling as much as 1 million Kindles this year.
