Baseball anyone?

I know, I know, football is still foremost on everyone's minds.  However, as a Chicagoan and with the Bears, once again, out of the post-season and the coaching staff now in chaos - we are desperately looking elsewhere.

I have been a baseball fan (and White Sox fan) for most of my life.  I just love it.  And I have to admit, even if the Bears ARE in the post-season, whenever the first of the year comes along, I start to get a bit twitchy.  Why?  Because, catchers and pitchers report to "spring" training in February!  So, baseball stuff is very close.

Any other baseball fanatics out there?  Anyone else out there already eyeing the Baseball sections in their newspaper (or newspaper websites)?

I was a huge Atlanta Braves fan when I was younger.  I get disillusioned by all the trading.  The same people just don't stay on the same team for long enough.
Have you looked at my Avatar? ;D

I am wearing my Redskins gear today. . . but also wore my Nationals jacket this morning -- 'Skins can still use some Nats mojo!
Not much of a sports fan here much at all.  But I do like the sound of baseball on the radio.  It's THE sound of summer.  :)
I don't care who's playing baseball, I am a hardcore fan.

Favorite National League team: the St. Louis Cardinals

Favorite American League team: the Seattle Mariners

Sean Sweeney (where are you, Sean?) usually gets a  thread going so we can cheer and talk smack about every team.

There are quite a few Yankee and Brave fans among the members, and I confess, they are the only 2 teams I actively cheer against every year.  ;D
I don't care one way or the other about the Braves but yes, cheering against the Yankees is a must. :D  The Rangers are my team. I worked as an usher at the old Rangers' stadium for a couple of years about 20 years ago -- what a fun job for a baseball fan! Being *paid* to watch the game!
I've been checking out airfares to Arizona for spring training.  always been on my bucket list, and I have a free place to stay and a car so why am I hesitating???

favorite team is the Red Sox, primarily because of our local hero, jacoby ellsbury.  But, when not cheering for jacoby, am a diehard Angels fan!  And, cheer for anyone playing the Yankees...
I would totally go to spring training -- but, doing taxes, it's the ONE time of year I can't really travel much. :(  My neighbors usually go. . . . maybe one of these years I'll play a little hookey. . . . . ::)

In that case -- why? Go! Many many years ago I had relatives who were living in Hawaii. They invited me. They would have been happy to see me. Did I go? No. STUPID ME!
I have never been to spring training.  I am such a home body, that it has never been a big desire for me to go.

Of course, as a Chicagoan, I am used to baseball be disappointing.  The White Sox waited until the last two weeks of the season last year to break my heart.
Oh, and just to put a dagger in the hearts of my Cubs-loving relatives (including my own father), I cheer for the Cardinals in the National League.  I lived in St. Louis for a while and got to really love that team.
Only 34 days until pitchers and Catchers report to Camp!

I knew I liked you...
So happy to see the "non vote" for the Hall of Fame today.
I've bled orange long before the SF Giants were winners!  Our team of insane misfits are so entertaining but they also work so well with each other.  Bruce Bochy is a great manager, too.

I enjoy booing (cheerfully, not meanly) the Yankees and the Dodgers.  Does anyone beyond movie stars and girls with silly crushes on Derek Jeter actually cheer for them?

During a trip to Chicago, I purchased a Cubs sweatshirt because my in-laws live in Wrigleyville; people on street would randomly stop to greet me and chat since they were nearing the playoffs that year.  I became a Cubs fan simply because the fans were so nice and welcoming, if they're on then I'll cheer for them but I don't follow them regularly.  I'm still waiting to visit Chicago when they're in town so I can see them play in one the greatest stadiums.

I was glad to see the non-vote this week, as well.  Sorry, but I don't think they deserve it.  I have friends who say it wasn't, technically, illegal within baseball at the time or some such nonsense.  Sorry, but it's nonsense.  Of course, some say that several of those who were non-voted will ultimately make it in at some point, but I think a message was sent.
I'm here! I'm here! Give me a couple of months, I'll be ready... I hope.

Last year was so awful for my Red Sox, and it's not looking good for 2013. The pitching doesn't look like it has improved.
I love baseball.  Unfortunately, my team, the Cleveland Indians are stuck in the mud and don;t appear to be on the way to improvement ANYTIME soon.  We're devoid of talent on the Major League level and the farm system is totally barren.
I saw a link on Facebook today (disclosing this because I'll admit it might not be true since FB is the source) saying that the Dodgers have surpassed the Yankees and now have the most expensive group of players for 2013.

You can buy players but you can't buy a TEAM.  ha ha!  I'm ready.... Beat LA!

Give it time. Tito is a solid manager. What you need is a new owner, truthfully.
