Best edition of LOTR?

Help!  I wanted to get DD a copy of LOTR for Christmas (either paper or Kindle would be okay) but I'm seeing lots of different editions, and most of them have someone in the reviews complaining about poor printing, ultra-cheap paper, dropped letters, poor Kindle formatting, etc.  It doesn't help that some of the reviews seem to be about other editions than the one actually on that page, so it's difficult to tell whether any one is really well-made.  Could someone who has a GOOD edition (Kindle or paper) please let me know which one it is?  Doesn't matter whether it's in three volumes or one.  Thanks!!
