Books Butterfly a Scam?

Has anyone else had this experience with Books Butterfly? I was thrilled when I got 600 downloads a day for my 2-day promo. But…then the sales of the next book in the series just didn't come.

My first book in the series is permafree. I advertise it all the time with Fussy Librarian, Book Basset, etc. and always see a jump in sales for book 2, which is priced at 3.99.

I saw NO increase in sales of book 2 with Books Butterfly.

So…

either the downloads aren't real, or…the people they reach are totally unwilling to spend 3.99.

I remember another service that charged per download, and it turned out to be a scam. So, I'm not sure about this one, but either way, I hope this information is valuable to someone. maybe if others weigh in, we can figure this one out. Are they just reaching readers who won't spend the money? Has anyone had success with book 2 at .99, for example?

I just ran a promo with them with book 1 free and books 2 & 3 on sale for 99¢ and was very happy with the result. But that's my only experience with them, so I can't comment on a book priced at $3.99.
There's a recently locked thread here discussing Books Butterfly. Just search back a couple of pages to find it.
I know people are going to think that BookButterfly is paying me, but they're not. I did a series special with them (first permafree-second 99 cents). Sell-thru to book three at 3.99 was completely within normal ranges.

I was happy with our 99c promo.

I haven't tried them, but statements like this, which I'm seeing it for by no means the first time, together with the company openly requesting authors not to comment on their results(!!) certainly fill me with alarm. Well, they would, wouldn't they? ::)
