Boost sales on Apple iBooks?

2380 Views 24 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  thewitt
Any ideas or tips on how to boost sales for Apple ibooks? My sales are increasing on Apple but I would love to see more. I haven't done any kind of promoting so I am guessing it's all organic at this point.

Thanks for any info

Do you publish to iBooks directly? If so, you have access to Apple's marketing help that comes with your publisher's account.
Apple has a "pay-per-click" marketing capability, just like all the rest.

I've been playing with it. So far, it's paid for itself with sales, but that ain't saying much.

Might want to check it out.

I've never seen that. Where should I look, Joe?

I'd really like to know this too :) Since I went direct a couple days ago! I did see a button that said 'generate codes' which is potentially very interesting if you hand them out to reviewers on release day so you can boost your ranking a bit... anybody been playing around with those codes who's willing to share her/his wisdom?

All I know about the codes is that you can generate 200 and that they expire, so it's best to do it in batches.

No I am using Draft 2 Digital
CJ, your book is on the front page of SF&F, which is probably where your sales are coming from. It's been there for going on two weeks.

Generate them on demand. You can do one at a time. They do expire.

Can you help us find this Joe? It's not available in any of the searches I can do. I've emailed support but they won't get back to me before tomorrow.
I just got off the phone with iBooks Publisher Support and there is no pay per click advertising program.

Not sure what you are referring to Joe, but if you have a good way to target iBooks for direct sales, I would love to know what it is.
iBooks has been working well for me lately, but I haven't noticed any Pay Per Click advertising program.

The link to your book on the iBooks store is copyable (right click on your book cover) so you can use that link to drive traffic to your book from outside advertising sources.
Apple offers an affiliate program, and you can use those links to your books - as well as to other books - but they do not have a pay per click advertising program.
There's an app for that: http://advertising.apple.com/

I have never used it. If you don't have a mac or ipad you can use this virtual ios: ipadian: http://www.xpadian.com/

Anyone here use iAd? Please post and let us know how successful it was using it. I still think that google and facebook ads are the way to go.
iAds are geared toward advertising inside apps on your iPhone or iPad for those otherwise free apps who fund themselves with paid ads. It's not a good choice for selling books.
Thanks for sharing E.R!

Although it may not be perfect for books, I may try the iAd program for my nonfiction title as I am not sure how best to market it.
I used iAds for a different business several years ago and targeting your audience was virtually impossible. Your ads will end up going to iPhone and iPad gaming apps mostly - free downloads that fund themselves thru ads.

You would be better off with Facebook ads that use iOS as a behavior and an audience list that likes your subject matter.

I was referring to iAds. They have opened it up for iBooks, and yes, it is a pay-per-click type of arrangement.
