OK. So since this is my first Kindle, I am slightly confused as to the meaning of the text on the bottom of "pages" when i read a book.

For instance, in the book I am currently reading, the bottom says:

11%          Locations 1000-1006      8577

I am guessing that 11% is how far through the book as a whole I am.
I am also assuming that the page I am on contains "locations 1000, 1001, 1002, 1003, 1004, 1005, and 1006".
I am also assuming that there are 8577 locations in the book, total.

Do these locations actually MEAN anything? Like Paragraphs, lines, sentences, anything?

You got it.

I don't know what exactly they "stand for." I'll let someone else try to explain that one.

We've had lengthy discussions of locations and the threads are around here somewhere but in a nutshell...they have no relation to pages in a paper book. They are unique to the ebook and tell you where you are. The good thing is that locations don't change even if you change the font size. So location 1000 at font size 1 is the same as location 1000 at font size 6. So you can reference where you are, or tell someone else about a location, and you will be accurate.
