OK. So since this is my first Kindle, I am slightly confused as to the meaning of the text on the bottom of "pages" when i read a book.

For instance, in the book I am currently reading, the bottom says:

11%          Locations 1000-1006      8577


I am guessing that 11% is how far through the book as a whole I am.
I am also assuming that the page I am on contains "locations 1000, 1001, 1002, 1003, 1004, 1005, and 1006".
I am also assuming that there are 8577 locations in the book, total.

Do these locations actually MEAN anything? Like Paragraphs, lines, sentences, anything?

I don't think that they mean anything any more than page numbers mean something in a hard copy of a book.
Thanks! I figured as much, but I didn't know if there was some hidden meaning that I just wasn't picking up on.
