Breaking the lurk and saying hi

I am new but have been lurking for some time and wanted to introduce myself.

I am a full-time journalist and I just released by debut novel, The Wilding, which is a fantasy action-adventure for young adults. I don't really know what I'm doing but I'm having fun so far. One of my writer friends pointed me over here a few months ago so I'm often lost in your archives.

I am in the middle of a marketing campaign for my debut novel where I give 50% of my proceeds to three horse rescues. I think it's been successful. I've sold an average of 3 books a day (Kindle, online print, and in-person print) since it was released April 12. I even sold out at a book signing! I feel pretty good about my numbers so far (and when I was feeling a little disappointed my wonderful husband said "this is like finishing a marathon and being pissed you're not first").

I'm not sure on rules on this (I'm not THAT avid of a lurker), but I would like to offer anyone here a free version of my book if they would like it. Just PM me your email address and I'll be happy to send you it.

This is my website: iamwilding.com

I'm also thinking about offering editing services. I'm a better editor than a writer. So if anyone has info on how to get started, I would love to hear it.

Hi! And welcome! This is a great place to learn about publishing and to make some great contacts. They have been tremendously helpful to me. I'm sure ther are folks here who will be happy to meet a new editor. Stick around, you'll learn the ropes pretty quick :)

Thanks, Axel!
Hi MoMoBud! Glad you're here. It's a fun place.
Welcome, and congrats on the book. :)

On the editing, KB will allow you to start a single author-services thread to advertise your availability as an editor. You'll be allowed to bump it with an update once a week (and, of course, you can respond to questions and comments from others).

Speaking as a writer, most of us like to see a well done website describing an editor's credentials/experience and laying out a menu of services with clear pricing. Most editors seem to price per word, but some price per hour. Most authors seem to be looking for line-editing and/or proofreading; there may be some market for developmental editing, too, though that's beyond the budgets of most of us. I've noticed some new editors get the ball rolling by offering discounts early on, enticing writers to test them out.

Good luck! :)
Welcome, L.C., and congratulations on your first release! I love your husband's words of wisdom. The expectations we set are invaluable when it comes to motivating us to finish that book, publish it, market it...but they can get in the way of our appreciating out little successes as we have them.
Hello, MoMoBud, and welcome! Always a wealth of information around here.  ;)
Welcome to this crazy world of writers.
Thank you for the warm welcomes, Sunshine, Marilyn, Sever, Becca, Z., RN, and Sapphire. I don't know why it took me so long to post :D

Becca, thanks for the info re: starting out editing! Really appreciate it :)
Welcome! I owe so much to this place and did the same as you - lurked for almost a year before I got the courage to post right around the time I got the courage to go it alone and indie publish!

Have fun and sell lots :)
Welcome! :) You'll find plenty of advice here. :D
We miss you, Harvey Chute.
Hey there :) This place is great for lurkers, but I feel like I learned so much more when I came out of hiding ;) Hope you feel the same way and congrats on your debut!!
Welcome. I have learned so much from Kboards. Dive in and soak it up. Since you've already shown us your book you might think about putting it into your signature line. I just downloaded a copy. It looks good. Again, welcome.

Welcome into non-lurkdome, and congrats on the new novel. I like the cover a lot, by the way! :)
Thank you! I have some magazine cover experience but just enough to know my limitations. I went with simplicity for the sake of my ineptitude lol

Welcome! Love what your husband said about the marathon. :)
He says some profound things sometimes. I'm a lucky gal. Now if I can only get him to actually READ my stuff.

Is there a good thread I can search that explains how to do this?

Heather, Julz, and Janeal thanks for the welcomes!
Welcome, glad to have you come out of the darkness!
Well as you all can see, my signature needs help. Like lots of help. I tried searching "book cover in signature" and that didn't produce any results.

ETA1: found the link! http://www.kboards.com/index.php/topic,46766.0.html Gonna read up and fix :)

ETA2: I'm a fast learner ;D Yay! Now I feel like I'm truly a member!
