ok
when I go to the content manager and select things to delete, are they supposed to delete from the kindle? cause the things I am trying to delete are still there. They are not on my home page but they are listed in the content manager. Also, it is hard to read a couple of lines on the bottom and top of the page

Items downloaded from Amazon will not delete from the Content Manager. The little box below the name will say Amazon, to indicate that you can download them to the Kindle again.

Items not downloaded from Amazon will no longer appear in the Content Manager after they are deleted.

The Content Manager keeps all your Amazon books accessible. The book is no longer on your Kindle, but the link is there for you to redownload it from Amazon. In Content Manager underneath the book title you will see either Kindle, Amazon or SD Card, that tells you where the book is.

I'll answer some of this. (As others are doing this instant, I'm sure)

Content Manager can be set to show All; Kindle Only; Amazon Only; or SD Card only.

The easiest (I've found) way to delete items from your Kindle is to select "Show Kindle Memory Only" from the Content Manager.
Select all of the items that you want to "Delete".
Menu: "Remove Selected Items"
Pop Up Window: Move the Cursor to "OK" and click

You've now removed the items from your Kindle.

This next bit is important: Anything you acquired from Amazon is still stored for you on Amazon's servers for eternity. If you change "Show and Sort" in Content Manager to Show All or Show Amazon Items only; all of your content is still there and ready to download to your Kindle (free-it's yours forever).

Anything you've downloaded form other sources (manybooks, feedbooks etcetera) will be permanently deleted so either have it backed up somewhere or remember where you got it so you can redownload it if desired.

I leave Content Manager set to "Show Kindle Memory Only" and sorted by "Most Recent First" for my own ease of use. It adds some clarity to my homepage. I also delete everything that I've read...Amazon keeps everything for me anyway so why clutter up my homepage when any book in my library is only 30 seconds away? (If I got it for free; I can get it for free again

A reset can cure many Kindle ills...try this:

Plug your Kindle into the charger. Do a soft reset. (Hold down "Alt"+"Up Arrow"+"R" at the same time). If that doesn't clear your screen, try a hard reset. Leave it plugged in: take off the back cover...there is a small hole labeled "reset" near the battery compartment...stick a paperclip in the hole until you hear or feel a click (can take a few seconds).

Hope some/any or all of this helps. Let us know what's happening.

Scott is right on. Note that, if you do a reset, the Content manager goes back to the default of showing 'all' and sorting alphabetical by title. As far as I can tell it does not change how your home page sorts.

I sent a request to Kindle feedback asking that they add an option for "Kindle memory and SD card", which would be helpful.

Scott- are you saying that if you do this your homepage (not your content manager page)only shows things stored on your Kindle and not what is on the SD card? Or just that what is at Amazon is not shown there?

It would show all books on the SD card as well but all I keep there are MP3s. You can make another folder on your SD card and move books to it via the USB attachment. That new folder will not show up on your homepage or content manager (just don't name it "documents"!!!). To me it seems just as easy to delete everything.

I didn't realize we could do that, but it makes sense. I keep all the books I get from non-Amazon sites on my SD card so I don't delete them accidentally. Like you, once I've read a book, I send it back to Amazon.

I have been moving my non amazon books I have read to a different SD card using the USB cable, but I guess it would make just as much sense to keep them on just one SD card. Maybe in folders labeled- read and not read. Hadn't realized I could do that- Thanks Scott

You'll have to move a book from Not-Read to documents to be able to read it. Kindle won't see it until you do.

I have about 10 pages of free/classic books that I figure I won't get to for awhile, plus I usually have my laptop with me so I could move things around if needed on the spur of the moment. Right now I'm just tired of looking at so many pages on my home screen and really don't want to have to take out the SD card very often.
