Levi Dawson wasn’t thought highly of in the village of Lexington, Massachusetts. The son of a dissolute drunk, he’s always been looked down upon or pitied by the people of his town. He’s had to work twice as hard to win half the esteem he deserves, and his prospects have never looked that great. But when word comes that redcoat soldiers are marching towards his village, Levi heads to town with the rest of the militia, unsure of what is to come. He and his few trusted friends now face an impossible situation. Soldiers are coming, soldiers who seek to enforce the creeping tyranny of a distant, uncaring king. To back down would mean living under their yoke forever, giving up the freedom gifted by God. To fight means taking on the greatest professional army in the world, and to break forever from the country of his birth. Worse still, the only woman who’s ever given Levi the slightest attention is in the path of the British advance. What does a mere farmer do in this situation? What does a free man do?
