Hi there,

How much does a good copy editor cost? I have an editor I use and I also hire a proofreader afterward to clean up the text, but for my new release, I was wondering if a copy editor (on top of my editor) would be worth getting as I want the book to be as perfect as possible.

Thank you.

What exactly does your normal editor do, if not a copyedit?

From having priced copyeditors in the past, the range is truly huge. For a 100K manuscript, I've seen rates as low as $200 and rates as high as $3,000+.

Make sure you're both on the same page as far as what copyediting entails because I've seen different editors apply somewhat different definitions to what "copyediting" is. I would ask for a sample as well to make sure you mesh well with the editor.
