"Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" Question

So my book came out Thursday morning January 3rd and I've sold 837 copies. I have Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought books on my book page but when I go to other book pages mine doesn't ever show up in Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought. Do I need to wait longer?

First off: HOLY COW! CONGRATS ON THE GREAT LAUNCH *hides her envy*

It's a numbers game. For example, Courtney Milan's book is shown under my also boughts, but let's be honest - Courtney sells soooooo many more books than I do that she'll be linked up with way more people. Those people probably also sell more books than I do *snort*

So, on her page, those people who sell more books will be higher up her also bought, so they'll push me down (and probably off) her list.

If you keep selling like that, you'll be popping up everywhere on the next refreshes :)

Seconding the congratulations, ProKindler! That's a wonderful launch!

There's a tool here that you can supposedly use to see which products are linking to your book: http://www.yasiv.com How accurate it is, I don't know.

Thanks. Hmmm... hopefully something starts happening

Thanks, used the tool but I'm not showing up anywhere yet.

It's not. I'm on several front pages and a bunch of 2nd+ pages and show up as zero LOL

Heh. Good to know, as I show up with zero as well. :)

You can use this to market to the readers who like those types of books. I've found you need to type ebook in first before the title or it might pull up your other versions.

Very cool site - thanks for posting. ;D

Make sure you select "Kindle Store", then your ebook title. I just used this for a couple of my titles and it seemed to represent pretty well how links might affect sales. My best-selling title had the most incoming links from other book pages, whereas my slower sellers had few or no incoming links. At the bottom of the page are the foreign Amazon sites where you can get the same info. Again, the results were representative of sales - several incoming links on Germany's Amazon, fewer in the UK, and none in countries where I haven't yet sold book. It's an interesting way to look at book sales.

Thanks for this link. Interesting. Talk about 7 degrees of separation! One of my books has links to 174 others, but by degrees of separation ::)
Congratulations on your awesome launch!  That's a very encouraging start, isn't it?  :)

I have never been able to figure out all the mysteries behind the "Also Bought" algorithm.  I just assume my book has to be showing up somewhere, because it keeps selling at a steady and healthy rate.  It's probably better not to torment yourself trying to figure out all of Amazon's algorithms, because you probably can't do much to change 'em anyway!
You realize that you might never be on their Also Boughts or not as high. Or you may be within the next few days. It depends on how many of your book was bought in relation to how many other people's and how closely related they are in price and in category.

Great launch! Congrats!
Thanks for that tool Becca. It shows I am connected to 114 other books. I'm totally shocked because my sales certainly do not coincide with that amount of exposure.
But do your arrows point away from your book (meaning those are the also boughts that appear on YOUR page) or toward you (meaning those books' also boughts include yours?)

Only after a year and about 3000 sales do I have a decent number of incoming arrows.
I just did mine again because everyone seems so sure this works. It totally doesn't work for my books. It's not pointing to everyone on my first page. It's not pointing back to me at all and I'm on several first pages.

Either it doesn't work.... or it hates me LOL
Something weird has been happening with alsobots since December. (Well, weird things have been happening longer than that, BUT THIS PARTICULAR WEIRD THING has been happening since December.)

Amazon will generate alsobots almost immediately when your book comes out now, within about two days. But they only show up on your page. Your book still has not propagated into the system.

Around four days, you'll be in the system. You have alsobots, you're in other alsobots, everyone's happy and it's normal.

BUT THEN! (this is where it gets good) Your book will, again, disappear from alsobots for a day or two after a week. Everything will be restored the next time there's an alsobot recrunch.

I'm not sure if this is happening to all books (I'm not watching very closely, tbh), but it happened to every book I launched in December, and I noticed it happening to a couple of friends' books as well. You may be seeing at least part of this weird alsobot fiddling going on. :) It doesn't seem to be causing serious damage to sales/visibility, but it is kinda funky to see.

Congrats on the launch!

SM the opposite happened for me. The new book showed up on the old book (and at least 1 other) also bot, but I had to wait for it to have it's own.

I get the feeling Amazon sometimes does things opposite just so we can all be like, NO! It happens the other way! Wait, are you sure. I thought it happened this way. See??? EXAMPLE XYZ Yes, but look. EXAMPLE ABC... hmmmmm

I am 100%, utterly and completely, convinced that this is true.
Ugh! More to obsess about with that yasiv site!
.
And thanks for the hints to select 'kindle books' and which direction the arrows point.

I'm convinced they have a staff person who's job it is to alert them when we think we've figure out something new about Amazon. They will then change it so it is no longer true or we are at least convinced we are incorrect.
