Dilemma/Question about KDP

So I need to change something in the metadata of one of my books that has been set to “perma-free.” If I republish it will remove the free status? I’m not uploading a new copy or anything, just changing one of the fields. Has anyone done this before?

I've changed mine a number of times without any issues.

i actually uploaded a whole new file and it was fine. terrifying though.

I changed a price on my perma-free and it popped over to paid, but then popped back to free again within 24 hours.
