Hi,

I recently tried to modify the list of items displayed by my K2. I scrolled up to the top and then used the click-wheel thing to click left, past "showing all 21 items." Then I had a list of types of things I could display: personal docs, subscriptions, books, or all my items. Now, on my K2, I have books that I have downloaded from Amazon, books that I have downloaded from elsewhere, and two PDFs that I emailed to my kindle's free email conversion address, and then put onto the Kindle via USB. I had assumed that the PDFs would show up as "personal docs," but they don't - my K2 says I have 0 personal docs, and the PDFs show up as books. Does anyone know what exactly it is that makes a document "personal" or "book" and how to flag it appropriately? I mean, this is the closest we get to having a folder system - I'd at LEAST like to keep books separate from non-book stuff!!

Thanks,
h.

Several K2 owners have mentioned this. Looks like it may not have been fully implemented or not working as planned.

Same here. I had my BF email a photo to my Kindle to test out the sending attachments feature, but it shows up under books and my Kindle says I have zero personal documents. *shrug* Maybe that will get fixed in the next software update.

I actually called support about it and got escalated to a "kindle specialist" who gave me a BS answer about how it doesn't work for documents that you get converted, only for documents that the kindle reads natively, like .doc or .txt, that I transferred directly to the Kindle by dragging from my computer into the documents folder on the Kindle. WITHOUT converting them. So I did try that but of course the Kindle doesn't recognize them. So I emailed them back that no, that answer was not satisfying because it was stupid and wrong. I have not heard back :)

I would call BS on that answer too!  I finally looked at my screen, when I was checking to see if I had received the update.  No update yet, but I have 3 Word Docs that I had emailed to myself on my K1 for conversion and copied to my K2 with my USB.  All 3 of my documents show up under Personal Docs??!!  I have not converted any PDFs or put any pictures on my K2 so I'm not sure if that's where the issue is, and I have not emailed anything to my K2 directly. Interesting?!

I'm testing this now. The 7 documents I sent to my Kindle haven't gone into my Personal Documents. I'm going to try to have them converted and sent back to me and then I'll transfer and see if it works.

Until they get this obvious bug fixed you could tag your personal docs with something like 'qp'.  Then to get a list containing only this content type 'qp' and right-bump over to "my items" and click.

Well, like I said, I replied "no" to the "did this answer your question" email, and explained about the BS answer, and just got this reply:

Hello,

I am sorry that we have not fully answered your question. Please allow me to attempt to do so.
Currently there is a know issue with the "Personal Docs" sort. We are working very hard on a fix for this issue.
I hope you found this information useful. Our goal is to help you get the most out of your Kindle experience. If you need further assistance, please contact customer support at 1-866-321-8851.

So, I guess it will eventually get fixed.... and meanwhile I can grouch about not having personal docs on the Kindle iPhone app ;)
