Here's a question that has probably been asked before, but I can't find the answer by searching the KindleBoards:

If you buy a book in PDF format (from a site such as EBook Mall) can Amazon convert it?  I'm assuming it's copy protected.

Correct. There are lots of PDFs that aren't protected (which is why they all show up on illegal file sharing sites) but many are and if it is, it won't convert. If you send it to Amazon for conversion, you'll get an email back that something is wrong with the file. If you try to convert with Mobipocket, it won't work.
