I created an ebook (it's a whopping 99 cents) with very simple (short and to the point) directions on formatting MS Word and loading it directly to Kindle as a doc. This also works for Pubit. I don't use HTML or Mobi or anything else. I just loaded another book  yesterday. It was up on Kindle within a couple of hours, but I'm still waiting on Nook. So far, I have not had to wait 48 hours on Amazon. All of my books loaded in a matter of hours. I have not attempted Smashword (I'm not sure it is a viable market for me).
