Hello!

There's been more focus on email list building for authors lately and that is awesome! I think we could use a good resource thread where people can share links to useful articles/tools/advice etc.

Here is a very good, clear and simple resource list/article about building email lists. It mentions all the ways you can collect people's emails, in what places on your website and has short explanations on how to do it.

Articles/Websites:

http://jascha.io/listbuilding/ - This is a great resource if you're just starting working with email lists and a good thing to check from time to time and see if you've missed on something by accident etc. No need to implement all of these things in the list but 3-5 of them should be on all Author's websites!!

Books about Email Lists:

Reader Magnets by Nick Stephenson
http://www.amazon.com/Reader-Magnets-Platform-Marketing-Authors-ebook/dp/B00PCKIJ4C - Kboarder Nick shares great tips and strategy for building up your email list and author platform.

Tools:

Mailchimp - www.mailchimp.com - Most used email service provider at the moment probably.

Active Campaign - www.activecampaign.com - Newer than MC and while not free but it's more versatile and better with more features. Allows for better segmentation of email subscribers, tagging them, sending specific emails for them if they have visited certain page on your website etc

Please share your resources if you found something awesome. I'd update and add best ones to form a nice list of great resources.

Cheers!

Thanks for sharing. I will read this today. I do want to mention "Reader Magnets" by Nick Stephenson was a very informative short book on building a list and making your books easier to find on amazon.
Interesting.

A site that says, "Want to know how to get more email addresses? Just give me your email address, and I'll tell you."

There is something very meta about that.  :D

Yes, one thing to observe too (create a good resource page for your audience and ask for email subscribe there). I wouldn't personally have started with asking for email sign up but the giveaway is very relevant. I would have placed it at the bottom of the page. But this is not important really..
