In the past few weeks, two of my books that have been posted to itunes (via Smashwords) give away the entire book for free. Today, a third one appeared and it also gives the entire book away in the sample. Has anyone else experienced this?

I contacted itunes and they told me to contact my aggregator. I wrote Smashwords a few days ago and did not receive a response. I will contact them again shortly.

I downloaded and installed iTunes for Windows, but I still can't tell how big my book's sample it, in the iTunes Store. If anyone else can, please let me know. Thanks.

Your book sample ends in your second chapter.

I use my iPad (iBooks app) to view samples from the iTunes store.

I have the same issue, it started in the middle of the summer from what I can tell because my older items are fine.

Smashwords basically doesn't care

Thanks for your email. Our Technical Team is working with Apple to resolve this issue. In the meantime, you can speed up the process by creating natural breaks in the story so that the Apple system properly provides only a sample instead of the whole book. To do so, create a linked TOC per Step 20 of the Style Guide, or make all headings into a "Heading Style."

I hope I don't receive that response. I format my TOC's using Smashwords' guidebook. I've never had a problem before either.
